Bonnet gas struts
Bonnet gas struts
Gday All,
Just wondering if anyone is using gas struts on their bonnet and if so which ones did you use?
Cheers,
Neil

And here'sthe install thread
And one more thing. I have since swapped the struts up the other way, so the shaft end is the lower. I saw this mentioned on SQC or somewhere, just prevents dust sitting on hte top edge of hte strut body which could damage the shaft.

I just couldn't justify the US$120 price tag of the Motocam360 kit (although was very tempted), so I got myself a set of struts of ebay (~$25) and set off to Bunnings and got myself some aluminium angle. Half an hour later with a jigsaw and drill and I had my own DIY bonnet strut kit (which even works!). Hopefully no copyright inrfingements have occurred

The ones I got don't seem to be listed anymore but they were pretty much the same as these ones:

One thing to note is that one of the ball ends comes on a bad-a$$ threaded screw type arrangement (opposed to the other end which has the expected bolt/nut config). I just used a 1/4" nylock nut on it but would suggest to try and find a kit with the bolt/nut on both ends.
