no no no, not a sunroof, a turret, ie a whole starion roof section that you can unpick the skin off of to replace yours with and get rid of the sunroof.. aussie starions never had sunroofs, this one you have is obviously an aftermarket one and quite frankly good luck getting parts for it! the yank/jap ones with a factory sunroof were a manual winder type.

the turret i have is a non sunroof uncut one with original paint.

It was my daily driver will be again when I get it finished. I would put a list up of all the things that I have to do to it but it would take hours of writing for me, lol.
But once I have the body ready for paint I will have to pull the engine out do another headgasket using ARP headstuds and swap gearboxes as well as pull the exhaust out and clean the flanges and reassemble with some heat resistent paste.
Then as I have to sort out a clutch setup for it ~ I might build myself a spacer plate, get it balanced and run 2 standard clutches but I will have to see how I go.

I should have gotten rid of it a few years ago but no like a twit I had to keep it, lol.

Done a bit more work on the car. I thought while I had the car in bits I would fix the handbrake a bit. Well the driver side cable was not moving at all so grabbed a better cable out of the spare parts car and put that in. Now both cables move and the mechanism on the brakes move, but the wheels still turn with the hand brake on but thats alright it hasn;t worked for 7 years so there is no point panicking now, lol.

Also thought I would start on the door rust and also rough it has not fallen apart yet.

I will not be welding the whole thing because I got to use some bog in there as well.

And after I started learning how to push the button on the welder. Fascinating thing happens ~ wire comes out the end when you push the button and if you remember to connect the earth cable then it sparkes and glues things together. But I will get there........

Look, I apologise but I thought a turret was a sunroof. I never knew Starions here didn't have them in it.
Thank you very much but I have stuffed around with the sunroof for days now so I want to try and get it working. Mine is pretty rusty and I will try and clean it up and figure out how the arms are supposed to attached to it.
I must admit that when I first looked at the motor and stuff ~ I thought it was a bit rough and now I know why.

man that door rust looks fun to cut out! i thought my 50c piece of rust underneath the window cowl was going to be hard one till i seen your door lol. hopefully new plates of metal can be welded in once you shaped it right and tack it in slowly and letting it cool of to stop it from warping etc.. you'll get the hang of it eventually.

and just paint strip the sunroof completely to bare metal, if most of the rust is on the sunroof flat panel then you'd think it be easy to just cut a few rectangle/square shapes out and tac/weld them into place, grind down, fibreglass, sand and then final bog over it to complete it. rust in on the edges gets a bit trickier and my sunroof i got the rust fixed in my old prelude i had to get all bent up to shape and do as i said above.. nonetheless if you got the right tools/equipment it can be done relatively quick. kudos with your efforts so far, keen to see where this leads.

It is like a jigsaw puzzle that car and I really hope that I can put it back together and between help from here and the manuals I have on the computer it should be doable.
Well, I have finally got that worm drive of the sunroof out. I only broke the bracket at the end. There will be a way besides superglue for fixing that all I have to do is think of it. It is cast and I don't think you can weld cast like that.
I have used paint stripper on the sunroof and most of the stuff that was on it is gone now, the rest I can remove with a sander.




I have also looked at the bonnet I will be using. It is pretty rough but I will do my best with what I have here. It has a few patches welded into it but with some careful application of bog it should be alright.





I am also in need of removing the windscreen and dash for some rust repairs. Without a hook knife it is hard to cut the black glue but as the windscreen is full of cracks already I can simply use a bigger bl**dy hammer for careful removal, lol.

Well the windscreen is out with lots of cracks in it but that's alright because I needed a new one anyway. Had to remove the dash as well.

I thought that today was a public holiday (Happy Easter to everyone on this wonderful website) so I would do something nice and easy. I finally fitted the boost gauge into the correct dash into the factory boost gauge location. I had to cut that green backing and soldered wires onto the back.
Hopefully it won't short out.

I have rust underneath my window cowl also! such a crap spot to get it to.. lucky i just bought my own mig/mag welder recently, so hopefully will plate it up and make it like new. How come you removed the dash again?

I tried the boost gauge in an old dash I have from my spare parts car. I thought if it didn't work there then I could fit it in the console somewhere but the old dash was pretty broken so it was no loss if it didn't work.

I have been working on the bonnet and it might be a lost cause with that, but I will use it till I can afford to buy another one. It had quite a few patches of steel welded into it because it had rust holes in it and now it is a bit wobbly. The JB bonnet is full of dents from a hailstorm.

The bottom of the door is looking all right now, a bit rough but well enough, at least it has a few bits of steel in there now and only about 250 g of bog.

The sunroof is cleaned of paint and just put a coat of primer on it to protect it from the elements. I think I might have to stop at a wrecker one day and ask if I can pull a sunroof apart so I can work out how the slide works.
Talking about the sunroof ~ I think it was a manual winder that someone had converted to electric. And they might have fitted a complete """turret""" out of an import Starion into it because that part looks fairly original, not rough.

Wanted: Does anyone have any pictures of the sunroof while it was out of the car. I am willing to look at any pictures anyone might have. Anything to help me make mine work again. I will need rubbers for mine as well because never had any when I bought the car.

The bottom of the door with only a little bog in it. You might say that looks pretty rough, well it is but lets see what the outside of the car will be like with my bogging work on it. I was not to worried about the inside of the door because you can't see it.

did you end up cutting all the rust out've the bottom of the door and plating it up? or just those 2 major spots? also if you want some easier bog to work with.. look for a polyester filler in a smallish white tub.. can't think of brand of top of my head but i have it in my shed lol. works a charm and literally just forms itself around into the low spots etc and is easy to sand. you using blocks and all the rest or just sandpaper on the hand? yeah prepping a car is a key essential.. as once painted if it's not properly done then it will look wreck n ruined... just make sure enough sanding, bog is level etc etc and work up the sandpaper grades and you should be right. so far its good your giving it a go though. :D.
