So I'm having this internal debate at the moment, and thought I should ask you guys your opinion.
I have had my Starion for 4 years now, but I've come to a bit of a crossroads. I've realised that mine will need a lot of work (and expense) to get where I want it, so I'm considering the idea of selling it and getting a later Euro spec (or possibly JDM GSR-V) when one comes up. Having two Starions is not an option sadly as I have several other ideas I want to go ahead with at some stage, and not a lot of parking space.
So basically here are my two options:
1) keep my car (1983 GSR-II, ~200,000km). Has Intercooled TD05-16G @12psi so goes pretty well. At some stage it will need at least new paint, some panel & rust work, new clutch, new cambelt, LSD and a fair bit of work on interior, steering etc etc.
2) sell it and use money towards a decent 1986-onwards EX or GSR-V with factory LSD, black interior, etc. They seem to come up for sale here every so often.
So questions:
- what would you do?
- how much better are the later Starions vs. the earlier ones?
Ultimately it's a personal decision, but I'm really struggling with this one.

Hard call Sam, but chances are you'll probably find yourself doin panel paint rust cambelts etc on an EX just due to the age now. Unless you are really lucky and find a super mint one.
Unless yours is really doomed, id stick with the devil you know, and add bits/work as and when you can afford it.
I thought your car went pretty well when you took me for that blat to Port Chalmers and back awhile ago
My 2c :beer

let me ask you some return questions as answers to your questions
- car you currently have, is it capable of gettng to where you want it?
- if so, will you be happy once it's there, or will you always have that niggling "what if i'd done this with a gsr-v instead" thought in the back of your mind?
Personally I would put it up for sale for what I think it's worth (usually more than market value), and be firm on the price. If someone buys it, great, i get a gsr-v. If no one buys it, i keep building it to where i want it, and keep upping the price as the car gets better and closer to the ideal.

Thanks for the input so far :beer
Hmmm...
It's actually in pretty good nick, I recently drove it from Dunedin > Wellington over 2 days with no issues (~750km).
I think I would be happy either way, I think if I had a later one I would still want to modify it the way I wanted it eventually...there's always something to change or improve on...

I think it is capable of getting where I want it given enough time and money.thrash wrote:let me ask you some return questions as answers to your questions
