Boost Sensor Question

Post by kiwieurospec »

My Starion has let me down for the first time in 15 years and I can't really work on it properly find the problem and I need to move to another storage area pretty quickly.

I was driving home and it basically falls flat on its face under load with the odd backfire. At first I thought the fuel pump but after stalling it will start right up again and free rev fine but then it takes a massive clutch slip to get it moving and it will chop in and out as I drive.

I just really wanted to know if anyone had symtoms like that before and I could quickly switch the part and move it across town.

Bugger, would loan you any part that might help, but all my stuff is for the earlier models.

Does the boost gauge still read vacuum properly?

I've had similar cases with those sort of symtoms....
1. Clogged fuel lines/damaged fuel pump with a rusty tank. Would normally play up under load until it completely clogged up.
2. Second time was a burnt ignition lead that made the car run poorly with occasional contact... check leads and plugs!

The other issue could be some gadget around the inlet manifold (don't know exactly the name of it) similar to the dramas that 'Noddy' has had with his JD not running!

I hope it's a simple fix!

Yeah I can pull parts off my other one to sort it for now if I have to, the guage seems to move up towards 0 as it happens. It did boost when I got it on my street and I knew I was gonna make home.

Don't think its a ignition problem as it just stops completely, not so much a miss. I can check all the usual things properly when I get it to/find a new house.

JD I suspect you are correct, I did swap complete inlet manifolds over last summer and it ran better than it had for years (it had leaky injectors)
It started on the way to work with a low speed cut out which reached barely drivable on my way home. It is the first use of the summer.

Come to think of it, when i test drove that blue car JAS was selling it did something similar, turned out to be the A/C Idle up unit on the side of the TB I think.

I'm sure you'll sort it, but I you want a hand swing me a text on sunday, I definitely owe you one (or several, actually) ;).
