A183A is the JDM chassis code. You'll need to know what year it and what model it came from - it could be from a 1982 GSR type A injection with TC05 and no intercooler through to a GSR-V with the DASH engine. Best to check how many plugs it has etc.
*edit* according to Google the MD068358 is from the 1983.04 to 1984.03 GSR-II 5M/T with intercooler. It will probably work with a JA Starion.

Between an early Jap Import and a JA? Surely not, I think I'd have to see that...
They're definately different later on when they switched one of the ECU plugs to a different style, but that would correspond to JB's and JD's... I'd be super surprised if JA's were different to early (82, 83, and most 84) jap imports.

As everything being sold by Tomsun is GSRII or III stuff and I'm more inclined to believe it's III as mine is a III from what I can establish.
I'm using an MD003924 ECU which is an earlier unit than Tomsun's one.
The ECUs are interchangeable with JA ones at least as both run 17 and 13 pin plugs and all the pins are the same. There are 7 extra wires using an additional 5 pins on the plugs, I assume for ETACS, VELNAS and stuff for the Digi speedo perhaps.
DG, is this the website that covers the ECU numbers for our cars?

The factory intercooled cars often use an inlet air temp sensor on the crossover pipe, they have different pinouts trust me. I sold a gsr-3 ecu to a guy a while back who fitted it to his ja & he let the magical smoke out..
I don't recommend swapping between part numbers. You would want to check pinouts on both ecu wiring diagrams before doing so..

As I said, might want to check wiring diagrams first..

The wiring diagram I posted here has two, one on the crossover pipe and one in the MAF / AFM.

No you don't need a stock ECU, you've bought a Haltec to replace it.
As far as a trigger, you can use the stock starion dizzy, block or remove the diaphragm & lock up the internal plate & weights. Your Haltec can get a reference from that.
Alternatively, source a hall effect dizzy from an EFI mitsi with 4 slots like from an L300 & use that instead.
