5 stud hubs

For those of you who have 5 stud cars, are the rotors bolted to the hub or just left lose until the wheel is bolted in place?

The 4 stud rotors are bolted to the hub, but while my 5 stud rotors have holes provisioned for attachment to the hub, the 5 stud hub seems to have no such provision.. I can see that there are two little circles where there perhaps should have been holes, but no holes..

Is every 5 stud hub like this? When we were working on Aaron's car, Shannon mentioned this, and I didn't think much of it at the time, but it looks like mine are the same

yeah 5 stud are just floating rotors similar to the rear of a 4 stud setup - should have a retaining screw or two and threaded holes to use to remove seized onto hub rotors.

ahh, so the holes are actully to push the rotors off the hubs rather than to hold them on.. makes sense!

yep!

and the little circlips are only for use with stock widey or gsr-v wheels, you will need to remove them if using any other mags that dont have a small recess around the stud hole

erm.. what circlips? were they meant to come with the rotors or hubs?

I will be using stock widey rims... :D

What purpose do they serve with the widey wheels? (they are still in boxes)

Stop the rotor moving around when changing wheels. Then the wheel nuts hold everything in place once it's all done up

oh, but then why would you not use them with other wheels? i'm assuming the widey wheels will have grooves for them, but still, couldn't you use them with wheels that didn't have grooves?

no because the wheels would then sit off the hub whatever width the circlips are, and that's assuming that each and every circlip is exactly the same width.

Having the entire force of the wheels being held on spread over only the small surface area of a few circlips is a recipe for disaster.

Took my circlips off when putting my ROH wheels on, they really didn't sit well mounted over the circlips!

Actually they are there to prevent you from pushing the studs out...

But on most hubs the studs are rusted stuck in place so you don't have to worry about accidentally pushing them out.
