Power to Weight Query
Power to Weight Query
I was just thinking to myself recently about a few ideas i would like for future projects or maybe sooner then later cars. Now one motor i simply cannot get enough of is the sound of a rotary.. and want one that bad i am trying to work out how i can do it!
I've done a bit of research and what i've seen is obviously the usual.. weight x 3.0 = cc for cars under 800kg and weight x 2.5 = cc for turbo/supercharger applications.
Then it goes up to 800 - 1100kg with a 4.0 times for N/A and 2.75 for turbo/supercharger applications. Hence wanting to say put a 13bt into a ke70.. you would go 960kg x 2.75 = 2640cc.. which means its JUST legal correct? Now the vehicles i've been thinking about include my current starion and possibly other older vehicles such as a ke corolla, datto sedans and what not (have gotten the old car bug and want more!). So at the end of the day i just want to confirm this information and that this applys to QLD regulations.. Obviously putting a 13bt into the starion would be alright with its weight and such.. i would like to just confirm about the lighter cars in the 800 - 1100kg bracket, as some people have queried otherwise...
Give us your thoughts!! :beer

No one can confirm above information for me? Just interested in buying another project car which might be a bit longer then the starion to be built.. and thought a ke70 with a 13bt would be sweet.. but according to the maths it would only just make regulations in QLD being at 2640cc as the biggest turbo motor you can put into a ke70. Yes or No?

Yeah i'm trying to find the regs for queensland.. maybe some other queenslanders on here might know?
And exactly right, that is why im doing my research first.. before buying a car and then buying a motor to put into it and finding out i can't road register it.. Would be a kick in the guts to say the least!

The ncop is coming to queensland soon apparently, I have heard that they have a changeover period from november to april, I have to confirm this though. But the old laws are under 1100kg it has to be 2.5x original weight of the heaviest sedan variant of that year model is the largest boosted capacity allowed, 3.0x the heaviest sedan variant of that year for n/a. 13bt in anything under 1000kg you're pretty much dreaming. Not sure if the ncop rules are much different there, I doubt it.

ahh right. so basically the info in regards to it being "legal" to put a n/a 13b into a ke70 is wrong? might as well just buy a old rwd mazda... but then again its prob the same deal and near impossible.. god i hate the laws.

Ls1 in s13 - yeah you could do it as long as it is na.
S13 weighs what 1224 kg or something close to that. Therefore 1224 x 5 = 6120 cc = 373 ci.
Weather you could fit it in is another story :D
That is modern hotroding right there

that is the link of where my info was obtained from! 2.75 for turbo applications for cars between 800 - 1100kg. hence a 13b n/a would be sweet in a 870kg etc.CaptShiner wrote:Here is the link for ncop for engine modification

Would be, but can't be done. 875 x 2.75 = 2392 cc
This is the maximum capacity for a 875 kg car.
13b is treated as an engine of 2616 cc so not going to be allowed.
If your real keen on low weight big power, buy or build a clubman, they ate an icv and fall under different guidelines. For example, my 575 kg Clubman, has a 2400 cc k24 Honda motor in it. I have even seen an example of a 13b turbo in one of them.
Just food for thought.
Otherwise throw an LS1 in a S13
:P :P :P

Plenty more too....
13b turbo would just make it into a ke70 right? if you do the maths right and it works out that 2.75 x 960kg (ke70 sedan) = 2640 as being the maximum capacity allowed... and a 13bt is equal to 2600cc. so win?!redzone wrote:If he is talking n/a then yes a 13b wil be ok in a ke70 under the new rules
