Some electrical doohickey behind glovebox.

Post by ProZac »

Yeah. Was removing all the aftermarket wiring that has been installed in my car, and found this box unplugged behind the glovebox. The plug that goes into it had been taped up.

The unit itself was open and pulling it apart shown a dual voltage comparator IC with a bunch of passive componentry...

Just wondering if anyone knows what they do?

a quick google search only shows japanese auction sites offering them for sale, with no real info about what it is.

"Stallion 931 H2 A187A GSR-VR 5MT CPU E8T00471"

is the best google translate can give me.

Something to do with the wipers maybe? Its kind of in the right place. My wipers seemed to park and operate properly though.

Keen on any ideas :)

Only thing to do will be to turn the car on and try everything...

yeah, that might be a good call redzone. Someone has removed the aircon in my car, so it would make senses if they unplugged this thing too. Ive plugged it back in for the moment, will see if it makes any difference at all, im betting it doesnt :)

The unit looks like the same part I have in my GSRV which controls the lower beem lights and normal lights when you are trying to flash another vehicle. It has a timer circuit which stops the headlights from closing too quickly when you flash another car

Im not sure i quite get what you mean... On your GSRV, when you flash the high-beam, do the lights automatically rise up, flash, the retract?

If so, thats cool.

I have an Aust. Delivered 1985 JB and that's what mine does when I flash... Yeah it's a neat trick and gets a bit attention.

Hmmmmm, interesting. I seem to remember my old GSR-V doing that also. I thought it was a later model starion thing, as the ones on my 82 most definately stay down when flashing.

I know what this thing is!
I can supply a wiring diagram too if you want it. I had to figure it all out when I installed a Microtech in my GSR-V

It's called the ECI relay. Basically it has relays for the injectors, and I think the fuel pump in it as well. I have a wiring diagram for it's internals too. Most workshop manuals should have it listed somewhere as the ECI relay module.

It's kinda essential, if you take it out, you're car won't run at all!

- In regard to people mentioning the headlights feature - I'm pretty certain that is on the right hand side, not the left hand side like this one.

Urghhhh, no, its not the main ECI relay, that is further down, mounted above the ECU.

This wasn't plugged in when I got my car, and it ran fine.
