Took it for a warrent today, It failed....
On the driving lamps not operating (not wired up), and not having a high-stop!
So thats basically a pass in my book :)
Sorting out the items now, will get a warrent, register this week and she's legal! Hasen't stopped me clocking up 200k's in 2 days already though, hah.
First significant modification is going to be a rack and pinion conversion though, I though my steering was pretty good for a starion, but driving it at 100k's in and out of rangiora today was a little hair raising... It has quite a bit of play. Needs an alignment also I suspect.

That's interesting you need a high stop lamp for a 1982 model??
You may want to change a few bushes such as the steering idler bush etc or even have the steering box reconditioned to get rid of that play in the steering
before changing over to a manual box. After all, you still need to use the power steering for parking

Appears it was first registered in NZ after 1st Jan 1990, therefore by law it needs a 3rd brake light. Thankfully my Eterna was first registered in NZ in 1987 so doesn't require one.JDSTAZ45 wrote:That's interesting you need a high stop lamp for a 1982 model??

JDSTAZ - Not converting to a manual box, they're just as bad. Rack and Pinion is the way forward.
Idler bush looks okay, its been done before and is a urethane item... The box does leak, and is probably where most of the problem lies, but they are expensive to have rebuilt, around the $500 mark. For that much I reckon I can almost complete a rack and pinion swap.
Have sorted out an s14 crossmember to have a measure up with, and hopefully a starion crossmember from JAS to play with also. Wont be doing it anytime soon though, want to enjoy the car for a while first :)

Been tidying bits and pirces up.
Looks professional.
New cables getting crimped by a mate tomorrow, are a fair bit beefier.
I love that orange sticker :)
Dodgy added wiring removed, a little more to rip out, but getting there :)
In general it looks pretty un molested. Goes really well, nice and smooth. Bought a bunch of general service bits for it today, cap and rotor and so forth, will fit tomorrow.
Its good to be back in the fold :)

Have sorted some later model b-pillar vents and proper later model starion tails from the UK, sweet! Having four siblings spread far and wide around the globe really pays off when starion part hunting :) Plus I just love our exchange rate at the moment.
My exhaust is pretty rooted, they let it go on the warrent, but it really needs replacing. Will look into that sometime soon. Probably make the downpipe myself (will need to anyway when I do the rack and pinion stuff for clearance, it still has the factory cat converter) and take it somewhere for the rest of it. Unless I can find a friendly hoist to borrow for a few hours. My time spent building exhausts with cars on jack-stands is over I do believe.

Bit undecided on the rear lights... They look heaps better, but I'm scared of breaking them!

Hah!
Just removed all the aftermarket stereo gear, popped in a factory unit i got from jason, and it all still works, flicked the ETACS switch under the passengers seat, and there they are, those sweet sweet chimes I remember so well :)
Whoever did most of the wiring on this car did an okay job, its all removable and able to be put back to factory pretty easily, which is nice :)
