I had a locker in my one a few years ago, I just bought a spare open wheel one and got a mechanic so weld up four corners on each side of the thingy ma-jig.

Worked great until started making clunking sounds.

not too good for parking :-)

ohhok.. yeah still a bit iffy on what im doing with the diff as of yet.

redzone, as you were saying earlier about using the sonata manifold.. can you clarify which particular model sonata you are talking about? maybe find a pic of the net also.. me and a mate went and seen some sonatas the other day.. and the manifold/throttle body will be facing the firewall if it was taken of to be put onto the starion, is it the mpfi manifold of the 4g63 dohc fwd sonata's? or is it of a sohc sonata motor? need this clarified with a picture so i know what im looking for if possible. trying to get one from wreckers for cheap and dont want to get the wrong one.

There are no Sonata IM's that don't have to be cut & shut so the TB is pointing to the front.
I've had mine since 03 07 92

righteo, least thats been clarified now. so basically of less effort might be better of to just get a l300 manifold which will bolt up but then to find a bigger throttle body to suit.

thinking more of the sonata manifold route. someone should do a diy thread on steps to modify your own one and buy one? just a thought anyway.. can't find this manifold anywhere btw.. so any help would be much appreciated..

regarding the diff.. any common diff swaps for starions in general..? still looking into lockers, or a borg warner diff swap etc.. also on the cards possibly is a 5spd supra gbox.. is it even possible with the right adaptor plate to bolt up to our motors or not?

my question after looking at redzones earlier post back to enthuzed mentioning a mini spool for my car which is what i want to do.. why can't i find a suitable 25 or 28 spline minispool from say a vl or what not and pull apart my open diff and fit it up? has anyone on this site ran a minispool before or is it either a welded diff or strictly have to get a lsd for this car?

the access hole in the side of the carrier isnt big enough to fit a mini spool into, mini spools are meant to go inside a gutted lsd hemisphere
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

Unless you have a BIG 6 bolt diff.

The guys at Bosnjak Engineering in Smithfield showed me photo's of a custom Billet spool they did in a 6 Bolt Diff many years ago.

As far as I'm aware, there is no such thing as an open 6 bolt centre.. All the 6 bolts were lsd's

So I was correct in saying you can't put a mini spool in an open centre carrier then :P

You can smash any diff in a starion with axle tramp, even a 6 bolt..

Stop it tramping & you'll be deep into the 9's before you had any problems

Speaking of bosnjak, they reallllyy missed the boat with the gemini billet lsd project I put together, there was a guy down south that tried to do the same thing & they blew him off, altra9 have sold 25x $2000 diff & axle sets...

Yeah, tramp is the killer, so in come the coil overs.

According to my measurements, bits for Mustang 8.5 diffs should go in to a 6 bolt housing.

But we are working on a cost effective IRS 9 inch housing in our own brand (RTS)

My diff guy said the only other thing that has a high fail rate is the torque tube.
