EOI Bolt in Aftermarket Replacement Fuel Tank setup

Post by 1320ft »

Guys,

With alot of people having an issue with the tanks rusting out and it being big dollars to get them repaired. John and I are tossing around the idea of building a bolt replacement setup. It would consist of an aftermarket alloy fuel cell, with a servicable filter and a bosch or equivalent fuel pump.

It would bolt directly into the standard fuel tank location and you just hook up the lines and wiring and away you go.

It could also be customised if you wanted to go an 044 style pump and surge tank etc.

We are currently working on a prototype.

So if you would be interested, please post here and if you would want it with or without the surge tank etc. So we can see if it is viable to make a heap of them.

The current prototypes have 38l/10gal cells in them. But they also have a 2.5l surge tank and two pumps along side of them.

If you dont want the surge etc, we can probably fit a 57l or even a 78l cell in there.

Yeah, I'll be following this with interest.

Had almost the same design in mind a year or two ago after seeing a couple of the surge tank solutions around here, even had a contact lined up to fab it but I put it on the backburner since I didn't have a spare tank to measure up. Bolt in to stock location with integrated surge tank and pump mounts would be easy (and my preferred design), so much simpler than an external surge tank with less hoses and goodbye old tank rust.

I'm sure you are by the sizes quoted and the fact you two are a couple of smart cookies, but just make sure the tank shape is going to be road legal for those interested in that.
At least in WA I'm pretty sure there is a rule about the "included angle?" or something. From memory it had to do with the tank not hanging down past an imaginary line from the lowest rear part of the bodywork (under the bumper) and the point the rear wheels touch the ground. Why A9X Torana drop tanks have that chamfered angle at the rear.

I am keen too, my old tank is absolutely shagged. I am already running a surge tank, so would probably prefer to look at a 57l one, but this is an awesome idea lads.
