A group called the ACMC has become involved in the survival of the modified car culture. That means us who love to create our own version of the best vehicle whether it be a very quick rx3 , v8 lj Torana , or a prb clubman. There is a large number of people in this country that dabble in this hobby. Recently the RTA introduced a new law relating to modified vehicles called VBI 59 , that being the NSW version. The national version is called VSB 14. These laws make it allmost impossible to legally modify vehicles. Their only motive that I can see is to make change so that it appears that they are earning their bloated pay packets ( our tax dollars). I look at them as drones. Anyway , this group are attempting to bring together all of us to become a political force to resist draconian legistlations. This is not rocket science. It can easily be done. If achieved then we can lobby to get our way , same as the shooters lobby in the US. You only need about 2% of the vote to scare politicians and stop them in their tracks. Anyway , the ACMC are having a meeting and general get together on 26 th. Feb. gate 4 , Peter Brock Drive, Eastern Creek Raceway. It will also be a car exibition. Politicians will be present to be questioned. Check out the ACMC website for all information. All are welcome. They need max support. This could be the beginning of something big. Definitely overtime.

I think we need to get behind these guys, if we want to be able to drive our cars on the road in the future

We've got something similar called SEMA or Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association. A lot of automotive aftermarket companies belong to this group but it is also open to the enthusiasts. Getting big business's with the resources to influence legislation is the best way to go. Then not only are the companies helping to keep your hobby alive, they are also protecting their interests in manufacturing and selling you products.

We've got something similar called SEMA or Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association.

We have something similar to SEMA allready, called AAAA, Australian Aftermarket Automotive Association. But all they are interested in is Mum & Dad automotive industry and V8 supercars/rallying. They setup a side division called the PRTC; Performance Racing Tuning Council, but they have no power.

See the problem is, you can even get defected for special edition standard cars here. Cars equivalent to the ZLT1 camaro etc. A mate of mine has an HSV E2 R8 & when he ordered it, he ticked the options boxes for the; supercharger, bi-modial (varex) exhaust etc. He got defected a couple of weeks ago and had to get a statutory declaration from Holden stating the the car isn't modified, but a factory special edition.

The other problem here is, if your car is wearing rego plates or a rego sticker, the car MUST be legal, even if you are trailering it to or from an event, you can be defected for it.

And seriously, how many are?
In fact, how many normal cars that the everyday and often clueless motorist drives that is legal.
Whether it's basic things like tyres or lights, or less obvious stuff, any car more than several years old is likely to have something wrong with it...

Very true.

But the problem is how often do the normal cars get defected instead of the modded car.

Over the years I have lost count of the amount of times I have been personally or been with mates who have been pulled over to have their car checked, yet there was another car around us, with no head/tail lights, bald tyres etc.

I particularly disagree with the double standard when it comes to the burnout/street racing penalties and the drink driving laws: guess which dangerous activity gets the car confiscated (and sold) and which one can potentially get back in their car as soon as they walk out the door of a police station?

Priorities aren't where they should be.

Exactly, most of us try to fly under the radar and not do stupid things. Were not the ones who drink and drive, let our rego & licenses expire.

I have allways had the belief that if you blow over the .05 limit, your car should be confiscated on the spot and sold. With the funds going to victims of accidents etc.

Maybe this group can align themselves with the new Taxpayers Action Party that is being formed to challenge for a Federal Senate seat...only need 2% of the total senate vote.

Unfortunately it is not the cars that kill people it is the person driving it.
There are some seriously poor, aggressive, stupid car and truck drivers out there but they seem to get away with more than the driver of a good looking and renound type of car.
I am not opposed to doing a driving test in my modified car if there was a system that made allowances given capabilities.

I agree and it could be policed via their database pretty easy these days.

And NXTIME, check out the Australian Taxation Reform Group, their proposition is to have one debit tax. Drop BAS & GST and all other taxes and government charges. Just one percent tax on all business and personal withdrawals.
