Err, why?

window wipers on old cars are a MASSIVE airflow restriction over the car, causing extra drag.

You will notice that on newer cars, wipers are tucked in behind the bonnet, and the sole purpose of this is to improve air flow over the car for a lower drag coefficent (of course, it DOES look nicer too).

plus.. if you're going for weight savings, why wouldn't you take the wiper and motor out??

ahh yeah but I would have assumed he would have tried to put on the air dynamic wipers

Also, to add to that, you may notice that on newer coupes like the 370z, the rear wiper is stopped at the vertical position rather than the horizontal, and this, again, is to do with optmizing airflow over the car.
