Widey on J-spec... sold!

Post by JDSTAZ45 »

I know it is a time when people do not have a lot of money to splash around, but here is a well priced widey on J-spec

http://www.j-spec.com.au/featured/1988- ... 15946.html

I bought my widey back in 2004 on this site and paid 451,000yen FOB. Surprisingly this one is cheaper and the outlay needed is approx. $5000 to buy car,
$1100 commission and about $3000 in shipping and taxes when the car arrives.

You can comply it (about $1200) and register it when ready ~($800)....

If you have been wanting a widey and in manual...this is not bad.
Questions I would raise with J-spec is
a) still available
b)ask if rust is present under the chassis and
c)mechanical condition esp. any known faults. These cars are built well and repairing or improving mechanical condition is not too hard!
d) say Mal sent you and request a reduction in commission fees.

$9200 plus compliance ($1500) plus roadworthy items so maybe $12K on road? still a very good deal :)
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

damn that's just about perfect, apart from being a 2.6. Wonder if it has 6-bolt axles. Shame it doesn't have the SHP rims either (though I do have a set of SHPs in my garage in NZ).

Anyone in NZ want to buy a near immaculate E39A VR-4 Evolution? One careful lady owner, never been raced I swear :P

Yep, will cost around $12K with compliance, rego etc.

I spent $1,800 getting mine complied and had a couple of small things done to get it ready to be registered.

That car has been around the auctions for a while and I am surprised that it is still around as prices for widies have been going up, not down.

btw, the auction sheet for this car can be found here:

Had front RHS guard and LHS rear quarter, as well as radiator support, repaired/replaced.

SK,

I am talking about median/average prices in Japan...
Couple that with the fact that the numbers of available and eligible (ie importable) cars around is always diminishing, this one is a very good buy. I have seen absolute shitheaps in this car's price range, so this one is very rare.

J-spec don't bother listing any of these cars that are either in fair/poor condiiton or are 1989 models (there are a few that go through auctions every week in Japan).

This particular car has had some previous repairs (which have not been mentioned by J-Spec), hence the asking price. Enthusiast/rare cars are hard to sell if they have had previous accident repairs...

And Woody hasn't owned his for 10 years. ;)

Absolute shitheaps!? Starions! Best definition for one in good condition lol
Where is woody? surely its been atleast 8 years? (dont forget how much time flies)

I think these are going to either decline in value or they will just start scrapping them in Japan. No where near enough interest in them and not a rare find for an enthusiast. Considering in 20 years+ time when we will all be driving electric cars and starions will be a car for your show room, i'd be happy to have a nice yank widey example for half the price. Next to my narrowbody ofcourse :D

:beer

Whats mal doing with the red Gsr-v? Is Mal starion owner of the year/decade? Has to be?

We won't all be driving electric cars in 20 years time, I don't think renewable energy will be that quick to get off the ground..

I do think that a lot of petrol cars will be converted to e85/e100 and lpg/cng..
