Exhaust manifolds
Exhaust manifolds
Hi all, im in the middle of doing the twin cam convertion and noticed that I can't use the evo 3 exhaust manifold as the turbo hits of the steering box. My question is, is there any where you can buy an exhaust manifold to suit the convertion of the self or do you have to get on custom made?
Thanks in advance

Unfortunately theres not much available most of us have gone custom made. There are a couple of guys on here who have made some nice ones though 4gpwr did a pretty mean job of jas one. Mine was done locally but i wont recommend him as he didnt finish the job although wat he did do was top notch. Have a look at the twincam builds in the show and go section for a few pics and ideas. PS wanna send me a rustfree widebody :-))
Hmmm lunacy-mad yep that pretty much sums itself up haha :-) on another note i have a cousin living in the outer hebrides apparently it rains plenty there as well :-)T-man wrote:Lunacy, are you mad! Here in Scotland it rains like 90% of the time! So a rust free starion is like rocking horse sh*t, RARE!
I will have a look at the previous builds, thanks.

you can flip the manifold over by either cut and weld or make a plate to bolt it on upside down. cheap and easy

MR bender, I take it what your saying is, instead of mounting the turbo underneath, block the hole off and cut a new hole on top and mount it on top? Or am I picken up the wrong end of the stick? Or adding one and one and getting a sandwich?

I think Bender is saying is to cut thru all the runners where they meet the flange that fits to the head then turn the runners 180 degrees and reweld back together and you will have a top mount turbo

Ahh I see! Good idea! I spoke to a buddy of mine and asked if this could be done, he says yes BUT the way that it's going to be welded is called brazing, with the heat of the turbo and the stresses and straines going through that area the brazing would only last a few weeks of abuse! Is he correct or is he blowing smoke?

Your mate is not up to speed on cast iron welding .
A pro cast iron welding specialist can weld this by pre heating , cast iron filler rods & flux plus with the recomended cool down methods

Thanks buddy, think it's time to search the Internet to source a cast iron welder! I'm thinking it's a good idea aswell as a cheaper idea rather than buying a custom built manifold.
On another note, this website has been very very helpful and the responses are very quick and factual, if I were to ask these questions on the uk starion web site I would still be waiting on a responce! So hats off to you guys thanks for all the help!
