LEYBURN HISTORIC SPRINTS 2011
Well I left home at 5.30 am for the 2.5 - 3 hour trip with the intention of getting a good camp spot and was lucky to find one on hard ground in the pit area as rain was predicted and I knew that the paddock area would become a quagmire which it did with cars being towed out on Sunday.
Friday pm was fine but it started to rain around dusk and continued to rain heavy at times all day Saturday.
I was greatly surprised by the amount of grip/bite the Octopus Grip treated RSR's had under brakes on the first run during a heavy downpour which was reassuring.I tried to get a video from inside the car with the camera stuck to the passenger seat .
Saturday night it absolutely bucketed down at times and was worried that the shifting wind would blow am OZ TRAIL 3X3 gazebo away.
Sunday was fine all day and was having a good natured battle with some of the competitors that have piped me or me them in other events in my class with times sometimes only 10ths apart.
From memory my wet times were 1.07 secs and in the dry app 1.00 got down to a 59 and on the 6th run went backwards slightly so in the final run I got off the line cleanly, braked a poofteenth later and attacked the tight hay bale chicane at school corner even powering thru it and ended with a 57 sec lap so I was rapt :D :beer when no 2 son downloads the mini camera hope to be able to get him to post them on the site

PS there was a major crash when a Falcon GT slammed sideways into a pole ( in the final straight after school corner) that had tyre barriers around it at speed and the drivers door sill was pushed in to the trans tunnel and the driver escaped unhurt simply because he only has a lap sash belt and leaned away and the seat was torn away and he ended up in the passenger side so he put it onto his tow truck and drove away. Bet he is feeling a bit sore and sorry today.
