John196701 wrote:Good to see you are staying true, SOHC, the L300 4g64 head does have bigger valves, i think you can get much more out of the engine by just tiding up the original ports, port matching, radius all of the machine in the combustion chamber, to remove the sharp corners, there is more power to be made from the inlet manifold and the exhaust manifold.

I imagine the 4G64 valves are bigger than 4G63 but the LPG forklift valves are bigger than the standard 4G64. I already did a fair amount of port work on the head when I last rebuilt the engine. I'd like to run mpi but the work involved only motivates me to replace the engine altogether with a 1JZ-GTE. I'm also thinking about taking some moulds off my panels, doors and bonnet to make some vacuum infused vinyl ester carbon fibre replacements.

^^^ holy shit.

the 1 or 2jz is probably the only better factory engine than a 4g ever

lol, so it's either stay sohc or go an extra cam AND two extra pistons.

vacuum infused what now? will that be road legal? I'm sure it won't be a cheap exercise!

A 2jz would be awesome but I'm guessing there will be less engineering hassles with a 1jz, being a 2.5L engine.

There is something about the sound of a 1jz that demands it be paid serious attention. As for the carbon stuff, this is what I do for a living.
*Take a plug off almost anything.
*Make a mould from said plug or make one from scratch
*Lay up what ever material I want to use (fibre glass, carbon, kevlar)
*Put product in the mould, under vacuum
*Introduce composite resin (polyester, vinyl ester, epoxy)
*Product is cured in less than 1 hour
AND
là vous l'avez
you have a benchtop, or a quarter panel, or an air box or what ever you like. It's a little more complicated than just that but that's the basics.

Looked at the forklift link, I can say with certainty that the 64 head has way bigger valves both inlet and exhaust. Cannot tell you the size because the head is on the car - soon to come off though.
The ports are a couple of mm diameter bigger too. Might be something in an old post of mine about the sizes. Note the combustion chamber is a lot larger than the 63 heads and its shape requires a 64 gasket, choices of which are quite limited for a high quality one suiting a turbo application. If you can find a race standard one, please let me know.
Having said that ARP headstuds (plus machining spacers and enlarging the head stud holes) are a very worthwhile item.
But you won't get much benefit out of it unless you improve inlet and exhaust as someone mentioned.
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...

I wish you would go down the road to either Nachoman or Scum and get a plug of some rear wide body quarters :D

Carbon bonnet is a pretty big job because I'd also have to make a plug and mould of the structural webbing on the underside as well. One thing at a time I guess. :D

This is one I found but obviously requires you have the head O'ringed. The features say there is an ISC Titan gasket for engines that aren't O'ringed but I couldn't find it.
