New engine and turbo set up considered

Post by Vulpes »

Ok, tell me if I am crazy but I am considering putting in a turbo charged 2.6 litre engine using a sigma turbo set up and a T04 turbo running a carby. My reasons are I am after a torquey set-up and dont want the hassle of going down the route of EFI or aftermarket ECU's. Any ideas on this one ? What would I need to do to change the gearbox etc ?

As Gus Gould would say,'no,no,no, no no !'

You still have the option of a 2.5-3" dump pipe, increased boost and 3.9 ratio before going down that route!
I basically have that set up on the widey and I gotta say I prefer the 2L engine any day. No rattles, nor the extra weight on the front suspension and basically similar performance. Yes I do have the torque down low, but very little up high!

Ironically, I'm getting a TC06 11A turbo from a JB with a JD snail up front to get better performance whereas you have done the opposite with a TC05. It's all important what exhaust housing you have on TC/TD05 turbo 060 or 080? Small housing very restrictive!

Its a little knit picky, but high risk of defect, being older motor than what is supposed to be in the car.

If it was an efi 2.6 you could probably get away with it.
