Looking for a change - who is in Brisbane?
Hey guys,
Have been wanting to get out of here for a while, with plans to go overseas at some stage. I thought I would hang on in at Hamilton as there wouldn't be much point moving to another city only to go overseas shortly after.
A few friends of mine from Hamilton are currently in Brisbane, and they are convincing me to come over. What is Brisbane like in terms of its climate, job opportunities (have a degree in Electronic Commerce Technology but don't necessarily have to get into an I.T job), used car market (would like to pick up a sub $2k car when I'm there), proximity to motorsport events such as drag racing, circuit racing etc etc.
I'm coming over to Sydney in September regardless, it is my grandmother's 90th birthday and a bit of a family reunion, every time I've been over to see family it's only been for a week or two, this time I would like to either come over a month or so earlier, and/or stick around for a bit longer afterwards.
The only idea I'm not liking, is having to put my cars into storage! Oh well, my brother could probably look after the VR-4 for the time being.
Looking forward to your guys comments, I could be one of you guys soon!
Cheers,
Phil

will have to catch up when I'll be in Sydney then! I'll be staying in the Eastern suburbs but will probably get a rental car while I'm there.

I'm 100km from brisbane, money is pretty tight around here at the moment, but there are always IT jobs going in brisbane i believe..
sub 2K cars can be a lottery here, best bet is find an old corolla or something with rwc and rego already on it and hope for the best..

Can you explain how a RWC works over there?
Here we have a Warrant Of Fitness (WOF) which a car must be subjected to an inspection every 6 months if the vehicle is older than 5 years old, or every 12 months if the vehicle is younger than 5 years old. You must then also 'licence' the car once it has a WOF, which costs about $300-600 annually, depending on the vehicle. When selling privately there is no requirement for the WOF to be up to date, or even valid.
Cheers

Preferably! Surely in the land of Oz a cheap car can be had?? The price of cheap shitters has increased by double here over the last couple years, but you can still pick up something roadworthy in the 90s for $1500-2000 easy!

Yeah, you can. Just dont expect any cheap coupes, basic sports cars etc.
Even KE70's now in reasonable condition will set you back about 2.5k.

yeah I could probably live with a Falcodore of some kind, heck aren't Magnas cheap as shit over there too?
I actually wouldn't mind an E39A Galant VR-4 or a C61A Lancer/Mirage Cyborg, but unsure of the price/availability of them over there.
Where would I start looking for cars other than fleabay and carsales?

Magnas are cheap over here coz they're all fucked! lol.. Mainly owned by povs that dont maintain them..
RWC in qld is something you only have to get done before the car is sold, so you can transfer the rego, it is a pretty strict inspection of the car unless you can find someone willing to do a dodgy one, which are becoming rarer due to queensland transport handing out $15000 fines for dodgy rwc's and issuing $2000 fines for spelling mistakes on the certificates!!!!
