yeap, still researching this.

I thought i'd post on here to see if anyone had hard facts.. most of the info i have right now is hearsay and the relevant 'authorities' haven't given any straight answers or links to any useful information

I know every time i have had a car engineered with an aftermarket ecu the engineer has "forgotten" to put that bit on the papers.

did the engineer still put a mod plate for your fuel system? I think that's meant to 'cover it'

if so, who is the engineer that you use? So you were out and open with him about your aftermarket ecu eh? I might pay him a visit :D

I know this thread is long dead, but guess what....

I just stumbled accross that document I had from that guy about doing MPI / Multipoint from the factory starion ECU!

It's a password protected document, but if anyone is interested I can probably arrange to email a copy. Let me know if anyone's interested! I won't lose the file this time haha.

Thanks for the PM's guys! I'll send out the file to the emails supplied shortly! No cost needed cos I figure it's old information anyway, and I don't really think it would be that great a way to do MPI anyway personally, but I do know about the whole problem of having an aftermarket ECU on the road, cos in Melbourne it's not great either, which was half the reason I'm keeping the widey mostly stock!

Hide the aftermarket ECU in the original box (put silicon around any gaps to "waterproof" it) or put a mitsubishi logo on the a/market unit.
Seriously, who's going to know...?
I got pulled up twice the other night and the first cop goes "I wouldn't have thought this is a classic." He went to the windscreen label (which isn't a rego sticker, but a club permit sticker with only the plate number and expiry on it).
My reply, "Anything older than 25 years is eligible for club registration."
The second lot pulled me up (after their mates had waved me through the breath tester but hadn't tested me) and asked me questions about the club scheme that they should have known the answers to but didn't.
Honestly they've got no idea.

And Hugh, I didn't send you a PM about the info you found. Still want me to?

All that said, if one can make the standard ECU work with MPI easily and reliably, then I'm all for it.
Cheaterparts was doing something flash over a year ago but we never learned of the results.
If Mr Plod or some other authority actually collect a few brain cells and discover things are not quite what they seem, at least running the standard ECU will help revert things back easily if you had to.

Why not use a repogrammed Ecu from a MPI mitsu? or would that also count as a aftermarket.

I'm using a Evo 8 ecu in my starion with just a couple of mods to maf etc.

But I also have a twincam under the hood...

Yeh I think if the ECU matches the engine your using, at least in Melbourne, then you're ok. Basically the new engine has to meet emissions standards of the vehicle it came FROM. So yeh, that would meet that as long as it's installed as it would have been in that car.
