NZ Starion Registry?

Post by Firebrand »

All the discussion about the White Widebody on trademe got me thinking, is there a central Starion registry for New Zealand, similar to the (mostly) aussie one on this site?

Would be good to keep track of which cars are still around and what state they are in, I have been keeping info when cars come up on trademe etc, but I'm sure there are people here who would know a lot more than me as I'm pretty new to this.

Perhaps we should put something together, would be interesting to see how many are actually out there still...

You'll need to bs the Transport Registry Office.

I tried to get the info on remaining registered Starions a couple of years ago and they said they would give me the infomation if I was a part of or ran a car club. I thought about using the austarion.com name but thought better of it.
We could start an NZ club I guess and get that info.

Also I tried Mitsubishi head office to find how many they imported and got a guess at 70 cars which I found difficult to believe. I'm sure we can get a better answer to that question with a more official enquiry.

Obviously we will have two types of chassis numbers, one for NZ cars and a completely different kind for the Japanese ones.

I just looked back through my emails, I got this reply from NZTA in november 2009:

I have received your request for Mitsubishi Starion vehicles. I can tell you that we have a total of 1081 Mitsubishi Starion vehicles recorded on the motor vehicle register. Of these:

· 922 are recorded with the status of inactive (ie the registration has cancelled or lapsed).

· 159 are recorded with the status of active (ie the registration is still active).

The numbers have probably changed a bit now. They said I could get further information, but at a cost, so I will do a bit more fishing when I have time.

LOL at the ratio. Wonder how many a de-reg but are being restored back to the road.

A builder mate of mine has found some lately in Chch through various earthquake related jobs. One at a tinny house lol where the owner has too much money in it to sell and another two race cars.
