Turbo issue, boosts in 2 stages!
Standard car, standard TC06. I've been watching the boost gauge as it spools, it spools okay around to zero and doesn't freely give any more until I really get stuck into it to. Then the boost climbs from 0.1 bar to about 0.5 & by that stage we're really travelling. I haven't checked it's full capability at the top of the rev/boost range as I've only just tuned & timed it. The timing is now set to 7 degrees @ idle as it was pinging decently at 11 degrees. The problem was still there before but not as noticable.

first off does it rev freely in neutral?can u hear any rubing scraping noises from ya turbo? (check oil feed to turbo)can u hear any vacum leaks, checked all intercooler pipes , etc ...
had the same problem on one of mine with a tc06 , the turbos r getting on (lets be honest) and they old 80s bearings get worn which allows the shaft to move slightly side to side and up and down (yes some times with not much sign of smoke) and this causes more friction then slow spool up lag etc , eventialy my blades (exhuast wheel ) started to rub against the housing and it wouldnt even turn unless i went past half throtle( HEY I HAD TO GET IT HOME)
hope it aint ya turbo buddy! but put a td05 16g on it! straight bolt with 3 minor mods , will turn ya staz into a new car :)

Haven't had a chance to look at it yet but the standard boost gauge reads exactly zero - all the time. It's still boosting like it has been (which is weird) but now the gauge has packed it in too.
In the 8 cars that I've owned or passed through me I've never seen that happen with the gauge. Any clues? Is it likely to ve related to this spooling problem?

the standard gauge is electric and feeds off the ecu doesn't it? Perhaps theres's something fishy going on with your ecu or the lectrical system?
Either the ecu isn't getting the correct boost signal or it's not doing the right htings with it?

Because it comes up to zero from the bottom left when you turn the ignition on, electrically it seems okay so I thought that about the hose too. Thanks for the reminder. :)

There was a split in the hose so that explains the two stages...but the hose had come off the carby ( LOL) when I changed the starter motor which gives the zero reading. Just for future reference, on a JB when that happens the car runs quite rich & rough, especially at idle. There is some play in the turbo but it's not fouling the housing...yet.

Turbo is definitely ratshit. Makes strange noises, like a growl/howl and the boost isn't progressive but worse than that - sometimes it boosts better than others.
