I've been putting 400 flywheel HP (350HP atw) through mine for years of track abuse and had no issues.

They're pretty strong.

get a 6 bolt rear end from a yank widey 88/89 model, get the 5 stud rear hubs, drive flanges, half shafts, diff and torque tube, these parts are all larger than the aussie stuff and will handle that much power no problem. the 4 bolt halfshaft setup will twist the spline off the inner cv where it goes into the diff!
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

Buschr reakon 600h/p is the max the Big LSD will take, especially the torque tube. Thats why i'm pretty much thinking of going straight to the Live axle.

Every starion diff in the states was 3.5, the 3.9's come from their L200 equivalent. 88/89 wideys had the 6 bolt stuff.

600hp at the wheels i'd reckon.. A strengthened torque tube would be the go, like what Lee Thomas makes for gemini's..

As far as i knew the 88-89 automatic cars in the USA had 3.9 rear ends?

Can you determine the difference visually between the 3.5 and 3.9?
Is there a sticker like some aussie cars have?

They had 3.5 gears. All US spec cars had 3.5:1 gears.

The only Starions to get 3.9 gears are 'random' jap-spec and aus-spec JDs.

And they're all definitely LSDs? I ask because being in the land of oz these things cannot be inspected beforehand. I don't want to hope I get the purchase right and then after paying for it all and having it shipped find out that I didn't.

I had a long hard chat to my diff and box guy a week ago and he said to go a vx v8 diff with custom shafts and tail shaft for some serious power handling. If you I really wanted to keep the IRS.

You could always go the Harrop billet IRS 9 inch. But dont expect much change from 10k drive out.

Absolutely categorically all US spec cars had 3.5's, and ALL wideys had LSD's..

The Big diff 6 bolt setup was originally a big dollar ralliart option part for the earlier starions until they used that design on the later wideys..
