Bill Hincher is to be congratulated for the effort he has put into making bellhousings for our 63's .
I think that his bells are/were better priced than Dellows as well
I've had mine since 03 07 92

if the spare parts are cheap enough - the Chinese Great Wall vehicles with the 2.4L engine would provide a bellhousing to go from 4G63 (wideblock most likely) to W55-9 boxes.

The bill hincher stuff is probably a hell of a lot better quality than the dellow stuff of late too.

The t56 are a 6 speed found in ls1 onwards holdens as well as ba xr8s and bf xr6t.

Bear in mind there are 3 versions of the t56 and housing from bill doesnt fit the t56 we have. Also while the t56 can handle alot of torque and abuse, i dont think it would such a great box in a starion, its heavy and abit clunky i found.
Starions are a disease, the only cure is poverty.

yeah it's humongous.. but widely used in a lot of performance cars.. sits behind a number of american (and a few euro) v8s, v10s and v12s...

Nothing against Dellows in general, but to be honest, it wouldn't be hard to create a better quality product than what they do for the W5* series behind a Starion. I have one and although it's functional, the finish and general quality is poor.

Not even close. Considerable surgery is required to fit - to the point I gave up and will use something else.
I have a Bill Hincher wideblock to R154 bellhousing. Really well made stuff with everything needed included. Far above the dellow bellhousing I had in the past.

For sale: Adapter plate to fit LS1 T56 to wide or narrow block 4G borgwarner bellhousing.

ahh so it's already been tried here lol.

yeah i didn't think so. those thigns are huuuuge!! And I agree with RT, I don't think the extra weight would be worth the strength of it..

the bellhousing for the w58 and r154 should be the same, no?

No. Different. Common mistake or assumption.
The thing I am baulking at now is paying the same for a R154 as I did for the T56. At least it 'should' fit in the starion tunnel with minimal mods.

Plus having the T56 in the Monaro I can report first hand they are a terrible gearbox - the change is sloppy and the ratios not all that good. First is way too low to the point of being almost useless and the gap between 5th (1:1) and 6th is huge.

The only way they become half decent is with the fitment of a Ripshifter - and they're not exactly cheap.
Never argue with an idiot, it brings you down to their level and they beat you with experience.

I think if you do your research properly. All the T56 boxes, up until the current models (which have to newer design T56 installed), are double overdrive gearboxes. 4th is 1:1 and 5th and 6th are overdrives.

Crewmans have an extremely tall 1st gear, compaired to other models, and will do the highway speed limit in 1st gear.

And yes...... You need to change the shifter to them a reasonable gearbox to drive.
