Everything is Tig welded.

Avandull, Easiest way I found to secure the remote housing, now that you have reduced it to the 2 locating bolts was to tig a long but small dia. bolt to the side plate that then went thru the rear driverside housing bolt that is not being used. A nyloc nut then locks it in place This looked a quick fix but it gave the shifter housing its 3rd location point and took the pressure off the 2 front bolts when shifting. Never had an issue with this modification and its been given a really hard time. Hope my description makes sense.

If you want the details on how to make a short throw shifter really cheap let me know.

Thanks Brian your discription was good. I will do that and post up the pics next week.
I thought the rx7 shift was short enough. But the others might want more details.

Here is some more pictures. I took the tail shaft to Hardy spicer today to be modified and balanced. I will post pictures when I get it back.

So the next step was the shifter re-locating. I drilled and cut the selector shaft. Make sure you are very accurate in the drilling.

I cut off the unused aluminum bracket

Yep, That looks about right. You can see how it now gives the shifter housing it's 3rd location point. I would use a nyloc nut on the bolt though.

Off memory I used the front uni / tail shaft spline slip joint of a Mazda 2000 van, as the uni joint is replaceable, not like the Rx7 unit. I had the Mazda 2000 slip joint and uni welded to the Starion tail shaft, need to take a few inches out of it in length.

Tail shaft was made. 710mm from the face of the diff to the seal on the new gearbox

The shifter is hard to reach. I will have to work on that.

The Starion gearbox with the tuff pan has only done one hill climb. Came from redzone who said it came from a car that had done 180000km. I put all new bearings and seals in it. And put the tuff pan on. I am after$300 for it with the tuff pan.

I just took the Starion for it's first drive with the rx7 gearbox. Feels good. I am going to Baskerville on Sunday. Mini club day. Put it under some pressure.

Can you please explain why its hard to reach the shifter?You mean that its too short too reach or it hits in the tunnel when you try shifting?
Please tell us how does it drive compared to the starion one?
When i saw your post i instantly bought two rx7 gearboxes to have it a go!Some time ago i can swear i had seen an ikeya sequential shifter for the fc (i know that its very expensive) but i cant find it now nowhere only for the fd!It would be great to change sequential as long as the fc gearbox is up for the job

Were you at Symmons Plains at the end of Jan this year (same weekend as Targa Wrest Point). Was down there with TMR and traveling back to the boat at Devonport when a red Starion went past travelling to Hobart with track numbers on the windows. Cannot be too many in Tas!
