1988 Mazda Carburatored B2600 with the Mitsubishi 4G54 2.6 motor.
Get a photo, or look at it before you buy. It should look like the one in my picture.

Good to see others going down this track. Made the change to the Mazda box 4 years ago and have never looked back. Shift is smoother and cleaner, and box is much stronger. Inserted a set of ratios from Albins in Ballarat and it is the sweetest thing to drive, especially at high rpm and in the tight stuff. Have now changed diff ratio from 4.6 to 4.2 as 2nd gear is now a usable ratio.

If you have any question about the conversion happy to offer assistance where I can.

Thanks Brian

Have you got any photos of the gearbox cross-member construction.

Sorry no pics of X member but it wasn't that hard to do. I am led to believe that there are a few different rear housing configurations anyway.

Off memory I also had to put a 2 - 3mm washer under the pivot bolt for the clutch fork so it positioned it better on full throw.

The fun continues with the construction of the gearbox cross-member.
First some rough sketches.

Cut out the steel, and bolted it in place to be tacked.

Made a second one for Rad while I was at it.

The next step is to put the bracing on to stop it flexing.

I have put the gearbox in, and tested fitment. Fine tuned the cross-member. Drilled the holes so that they line up with the mounting points in the car.

Then I got keen and cleaned it up a bit

A bit of paint.

Image

It turned out better then mine!
The second time around is always better.

I then made the cover plate for the fly wheel.

I hooked up the slave cylinder. You are correct Redzone, the hose really does just bolt up.

Image

I then started on re-positioning the shifter stick.

I have had a busy day!

Keep this going please. Shows very clearly what's involved. I'm very curious about how you're going to relocate the shifter.
Oh, and you might want to leave Old Fart's member out of it. :P
