I have a basic MT8 Microtech running a Dash powered set-up with 2 Large injectors which are rated around the 1000cc each mark. Idle isn't too bad.
Then there's the extra valve opening up around the 2000rpm mark. Who-ever has done the tune has nailed it!!
Pleasantly surprised as there has been a lot of unsuccessful attempts to get the Dash motor going well!

I've been told a lot of tuning hours went into it to get it done right.

Maybe it all boils down to experience, time and effort of the tuner!

I can understand the frustration of not having a ecu tuned well. Most tuners don't pay much attenion to a cold start map, as they only really get a couple of chances to tune it in the timeframe they have the car. Finding a tuner willing to spend the time to tune the car properly, and run closed loop will be costly.

Having said that running a evo ecu and loom will still open up some interesting problems of its own. Off the top of my head a few i can think of is.

Extending the loom for rwd, and adapting plugs to suit the starion.
Cas vs Dizzy situation (Not that big a deal really)
Evo afm is needed.
Evo knock sensor is needed as it's different to a starion one.
Evo injectors are needed to suit the ecu.
Evo o2 sensor is required.

If you get a evo ecu that can be chipped or flash tuned (pretty sure a 5 ecu can't be) a few of these issues can be sorted quite easy, like writing the afm out of the code, or using different size injectors. There are a few guys on the starquest forum running a dsm/vr4 style loom and chipped dsm/vr4 style ecu's on starions so it can be done. The problem is that you still require tuning and most workshops don't know much about using evoscan or other evo tuning software.

I have been toying with doing this for a while, as i like the factory ecu no defect idea, but if you are not doing your own tuning i think the microtech is a better option for you.

Talk to Adam at Jem. He has tuned a few starions on here, and has tuned many a defected car for epa emmisions tests. He's not cheap but his work is top notch.

put the microtech inside a starion case
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

Also, run it on E85, easier to pass emissions & makes more power

Thanks guys, all really helpful ideas. I guess I wont really have an idea of the state of tune until I get it all up and running. The entire car was a piece of crap so maybe it will all work much better in my engine, wait and see. I like the idea of putting it in a starion ecu case and also E85.

Where do you get E85? Is that the fuel the V8's used at Bathurst?

I have decided I am sick of having my staz off the road so i put all the standard fuel inj setup back on it today. Im not going down the road of chasing more power again. It will simply have the new simmons on ot and that is it.

Strangely, I'm pleased to hear that! :)

You have the tricked up ecu and intercooler! You simply need custom I/C pipes to suit your set up. Increase your boost to just under 1 bar,
say 9-12lbs and have a quality exhaust fitted...in particular, a 2.5 to 3inch dump pipe. Minimum 2.5 exhaust straight through.

I'll be surpised if that's not what you're after. The TC06 is a good sized turbo and you do not have all that extra emmissions crap found on later models.

Hey Mal, I wont be changing my exhaust, just the dump pipe. I love the exhaust that currently on it.
