JayME's 83 Starion

Post by JayME »

Hey people
Thought I may as well throw up a couple of pics of my Starion since it had its first (slightly unsuccessful) outing on the track the other day.

So its pretty much stock standard
Had some lowered springs and exhaust when I got it.
Prep for the trackday was pretty much new fluids throughout
New Radiator (cheers JAS)
Some Toyo Proxes RA1 tyres (225/50/15s)
And put it on a slight diet to save a couple grams (well took out the things I could be bothered doing)

A couple of pies less:

In action down the straight

Oh crap theres oil spraying onto the turbo (not that its clear from the pic):

Soon discovered after giving it a bit of a hard time it was pressurising the oil and seemed to be forcing it out an already slightly weeping oil feed and somewhere round the back of the engine possibly. Then managed to break the intake pipe between airbox and turbo whilst doing some investigation, so my day was over after a couple of runs. Was idleing the other day and started randomly blowing blue smoke too so suspect maybe a turbo seal? Anyway some more investigation to be done. Itll live to see the track another day.

A wee short vid coming round the sweeper onto the main straight at Ruapuna (just slightly lifting the inside wheel and smoking it - probly not as obvious on lower quality)

Have some more incar to edit up at some stage.

car looks clean as a whistle!

i'd be doing a compression test on it, could have broken a ring land, that'd explain the pressurising and blue smoke at idle.

Cheers for the kind words - Photos are quiet nice to it - Car is tidy but original condition. Plenty of room for imporvement :)

Whipped the rocker cover off and checked breathers - dont seem to be a problem. The car smoking at an idle has only been a one off that ive noticed. Tried leaving it idleing again for some time and it was clean . . . .

Has been sitting in the garage doing nothing since the track day. Will get it out one of these days and do a compression test and have a bit better hunt around.

Bugger.... I was going to see if you were going to be ready for the track day on the 26th.... I was thinking about taking mine out.
Hopefully you get things sorted.

I think I officially have a problem . . . .

Starion no. 2 come home today

This one is an 84 NZ new EX. Purchased brand new by my Nana and Pop - This is the car that got me into starions. She has been neglected a bit and fairly rusty in places but hope to keep her alive. Still live rego which is handy.

Yes, it is official. You have a problem....Starionitis. It starts with just one and then...
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...

Don't mind those wheels, they look alright. I take it they are 14s and 4 stud. They look a lot like aussie Holden Camira alloys, but somehow better.

Frank, they look very similar to the early Scorpion factory alloys.

That they do, forgot about them.
JayME, what's the plan for the second one.
Maybe you can turn that one into a thrasher & tell your grandfolks how much fun you have in it!
