How different is the loom? Is it just an extra wire that controls the 12v or completely different?

quite different as far as I know - the DASH engine doesn't use a seperate E101 or knock control box like the Starion does, and uses a optical distributor with four wires instead of the standard distributor with two wires.

I went wrecker hunting and couldn't even find an older Mitsi which would have the same connectors on the ECU but only an early injected L300 shares the one connector, and cannot find anything remotely similar to the other connector on the ECU. I do have a wiring digram for the DASH loom though if we do manage to find connectors.

Bugger... hmmm the chances of finding a loom are going to be hard.. I guess the only option if I want to run the DASH motor will be to get a link or something similar... although I'm not to sure if they will be able to work the 12v?

A link would be fine with the 12 valve dash robin. And a link has a few extra outputs so controlling the extra valves wouldnt be a problem. Its just like a VETC setup.

Well got the car... actually it's not to bad, it's about 7 different shades of white.. lol got a whole heap of spares with it as well. Most of it has gone into the bin though. Planning on only having seats, steering wheel and centre consul so almost all other interior bits are going out. Interiors stuffed anyway.
Runs alright, sweet gearbox, manual steering rack which I actually quite like.
Not to sure about the front rotors though, it came with the standard rotors, although the guy said that he drilled the front rotors... I drove it home carefully, although on closer inspection they look like properly cross drilled rotors rather then ones he did himself. Tomorrow I'll have a closer look.
He also gave me a choice... some slogged out steering lock or a DASH head in really good condition. Guess what I took! lol
Also on the firewall there is a plug with a red and white wire going to it that looks like the plus needed to plug into back of the DASH head?!?! He seemed to think that it might have had a DASH motor originally... Did the GSR3 ever come with a DASH motor?
Will post pics up soon.

Gezz, however did you decide...... both options sound so tempting :P

If the plug is orange it will either be the plug for the revercing lights or some had a fault code plug on the firewall under the wipper motor.
Ive never seen a GSR III with a dash motor factory fitted

It is a black plug with red and white wires. Plug looks the same a the one in the back of the DASH Head... I never head of one either... but you never know. I'm going to find the ecu and see what one it is...

All DASH Starions were 5 stud at the very least, and in GSR-V trim from 1984 onwards. Interestingly after 1986 the DASH Starions dropped down in power to 170PS from 200PS of the earlier models.

Interesting... Going to have to investigate this starion further.
It's got manual wing mirrors, but the electric windw controls (assume they been replaced at some stage). Blanked off rear wiper, no washer bottle in the back etc. Typical starion.
OHHHH forgot to say it has the Velnas (spelling) unit in it and it still works perfectly! :pimp
Also has a newish professionally installed towbar and plug... feel a little bad taking that off!

Got to save for some new ones... got the mags in mind that I want to put on it but they're not cheap and I have to convert to 5 stud to.

hey Robin if I can get two DASH wiring looms made up (will be standalone so existing loom will remain in place if ever wanting to revert back to 8V and original loom) would you be keen along with my spare DASH ECU?
