NZ 1983 Starion for Sale!

Post by cj »

Ive been given the difficult job of selling my dads '83 Staz. Now, i am by no means a starion expert so, first of all i need to know what im looking at. From what i can tell its the JDM GSR III version. Im happy to answer any questions that might help to tell exactly what im looking at. Its so hard for me to sell as there are so few of these for sale/left in NZ. So any help as to what its worth would be much appreciated.

It is VERY original, whether thats a good or bad thing i dont know. Other than the wheels that is. 124xxx kms on the clock. It has a little bit of rust on the roof and at the drivers door which i cant decide if its worth taking it out or sell "as is". no other known issues.

hey, I can't say I've seen this around Hamilton before!

What area in Hamilton, what is your price expectation, and what are your contact details?

It doesnt get to see a lot of road time. its been driven very little. only 2000km in over 3 years. Though hes had it since '91. Im in Dinsdale. Car is in Melville. Id be really appreciative of any help trying to work out what its worth. Theres a couple on trademe, but ones a track car, so not worth as much (imo). and the other is a USDM widebody so not really the same comparison. The insurance company values it at about $11,000 i think but thats always vastly different to the domestic market. Value is based on supply vs demand. supply is low but maybe demand is too. If you want to contact me, just email,...overthehills@ihug.co.nz or ph. 021 1746268. CJ

The going rate for the earlier (82-84) ones seems to be around $3000 - market isn't good right now. Add a bit for low kms, minus a bit for auto trans and the rust. If it has an LSD fitted, add another $500 maybe..

For a guide, this one is very similar to yours -

The 86-88 (NZ new) ones generally go for quite a bit more than the earlier ones (factory LSD, full leather interior, better turbo, intercooler etc).

appreciate that, its a new listing so hadnt seen that yet.
I did think the value would be a bit higher given the rarity. I'll watch their auction.

With that rust, and the fact that it's auto I would place it around $2000-2500.

Yep rust repairs aint cheap. I gave away a rego'd running one with about the same amount of rust in it a few years ago after deciding the repairs would be more than the value of the car. At least the engine and drivetrain lived on in a sigma after that.
But back on topic anyway, CJ prob best to chuck it on trademe and see what the interest on there is like. As DG said though, i wouldn't expect to see much more than $2500 for it.
