As Vulpes indicated I am going to buy the black JB lhe bought off Barup. less what what he wants of the mechanical stuff and selling some of the rest. I have a stripped out shell of a car that cannot easily be converted back to road use but that has some awesome mechanical/running gear in it and that is largely sitting in the garage waiting for events to run that dont coincide with family/work commitments and when funds allow.
The plan is to transfer my mechanical stuff motor/gearbox/diff into the JB. All my suspension and brake setup will go in as well. Might paint the JB (Barup says its rust free but needs a repaint) so will strip it all back, paint it (thinking of plain white atm) and tidy up the interior and have myself a car largely intended for the track but that is road registered and that I can take for a drive whenever I feel like it (obeying the road rules obviously).
At the end of it all I think this is the best way forward for me and a big thanks to Vulpes for making the JB available at a price that is very fair and allows one more Starion back on the road. Its people like Daryl that really do love the Starion and will assist others to realise their plans that make this little community a joy to be involved in. :beer
btw - I will have up for sale (once this all starts) a Bond roll cage with Certificate of Compliance if anyone is interested. Plus some other stuff like the Willwood pedal box (which I may keep, not sure just yet).

OK seems there will be some debate about keeping it black or going with white. LOL I am undecided at this stage so will make up my mind as I get closer to the time for painting. Both have their appeal. I personally like white but the black could also come up looking pretty schmicko with the right accents to set it off.
The pedal box is a 2 pedal (brake and clutch) setup that mounts in place of the standard brake/clutch pedal arrangement. It needs its own bracket which Cookie and I made up when we installed our pedal boxes way back and its mounted pretty solid. The beauty of the pedal box is it allows front to rear brake bias adjustment as there are separate master cylinders for front and rear. By adjusting the pivot point on the fulcrum bar/spindle you change the leverage between the 2 circuits thus altering how much pressure goes to each master cylinder. It also comes with a dash mounted bias control for finite adjustment front to rear with a twist of a dial. The brake booster is deleted so its leg muscle city for braking but you get excellent pedal feel and the ability to adjust to suit different circuits and the balance of the car under braking. Check them out on the Willwood brakes website for more detail. Mine is the "rear mounted, hanging version".
Oh and I forgot. I will have the rear brake set up for sale as well as they cannot be used for street use (no handbrake). These are a 286mm (iirc) rotor with a 4 piston caliper. There is a bracket I had made that allows them to mount on a Starion rear hub. Its a good setup and works great but strictly for track use only. So for someone doing track work only the pedal box and rear brake setup is a great option to improve the overall brake package.

Greg, you have to keep it black, original black ones are rarrrrrrre! that is of course if it is indeed an original black.. actually the two tone would be a laugh on a racer, bit of a sleeper look haha.

I was going to say paint it white but I just finished giving my black Staz a wash and shammy. It's hard to beat a clean black car.
Either is good. White is better if the panels arn't super straight.
I'm also selling a redzone smooth bumper cover that should suit it. Going cheap in the buy/sell section. :beer

I've got a black Staz that's basically a road registered race car (do a search for Black Betty, AMC) to find some. It's not that modified yet but has full cage, etc.
It's ready for club reg but I'm waiting for the rule changes which officially come in Feb 2011. I plan on using it on the road for 90 days per year, no questions asked. And then do this with two more Starions - so that's 9 months of the year covered!
I only wish the thing was white, Mr Plod pays far more attention to my black one than he ever did with the white one & I drive far more conservatively in the black one. It's getting repainted soon - stark white!
The other benefits - you don't need a white square on your doors for your competition number if the car is already white so the car will draw less attention to itself on the road because of that.
Then there's your entry: if you put white as the colour, you can bring either car without changing your entry details.
Ultimately it's your car so your choice, but these are my reasons for the black to white change!
