Oldie at Oakey sprints

Post by OLD FART »

Have entered in the final street sprint for 2010 on the 20th & 21st
Had ignition troubles in 09 which pissed me off no end especially as it turned out to be a poor soldering connection to 1 ot the wires to 1 of the 4 coils
But it's all good now so fingers xxx and hoping for a fine weekend
I've had mine since 03 07 92

Good luck Rad, and I can now sympathise with your frustrations over ignition problems.

More character building needed as was 3rd in class by .6 secs from leader at the end of day one but nxt day on 2nd run it appears that there is a problem with fly wheel or clutch so had to bum a lift home and taking a borrowed trailer to bring it back. Will know more when box is off .Suspect loose or broken bolts as noise stops when clutch pedal is in .
Have always been worried if something happened when away at events so now a trailer is on my xmass wish list

I'm a great believer in "Murphy's Law". I always take my car to every event on a trailer, just to ensure I don't have problems. My old rally car (which I sold last year) has now done 19 consecutive rallies without a DNF, (I believe this is a club record) because it has always been trailered to every event. That's why I believe in "Murphy's Law".

For those who don't know about "Murphy's Law", it applies as follows :-
The part that fails is the most inaccessable.
You only get punctures when you don't have a spare.
You only brake down when you don't have tools.
OR you never brake down when you have a trailer.

You get what I mean ...........

Weird issue there Oldie, I remember a few years ago the rattling noise was a clutch cover bolt that was running around making peen marks on the clutch cover and inside of the bellhousing area. Though it was constant noise. In your case it may be the throwout bearing will need to be thrown out! It's probably disintegrated under a serious amount of right foot, I've wrecked two of them over the years and a few more were on their way as a result of getting up it...

The clutch was built to handle the strokers torque well thats what I asked and paid for , but will keep you posted as to what went wrong . The TOB and spiggot bearings were new as well as I don't do things half assed
Lee has phoned and said its up on the hoist and has removed the inspection plate and the flywheel is not moveing/loose so at the moment it appears that the clutch is the prime suspect

If I finish anywhere in the top 50% of my class I'm very happy, but your result is excellent. :) Well done.

Stretched!!! What brand of bolts were they?

I bought a set of ARP flywheel bolts and had the threaded length shortened to match my OEM bolts.

Pete do you have the ARP part #??
I think they may be a 3SGTE Toyota part
