Big oops at Autocross
Going great, possibly one of my fastest ever laps.
Then moments later in the next corner, I clipped the wall in the cutting, & this happed.
Oops !!!!!
Bugger !!!
I didn't get a single scratch on me, but poor Staz has some major bruises.
These are tough cars, I still drove it back onto the trailer, with all mechanicals, steering, suspension unscathed.
I will now probably put this running gear into my spare rolling shell for next years series.

Hey Peter great to know you are ok and have a shell to rebuild Unfortunately I'm not allowed a spare so I have to be a little bit more conservative / less spectacular/ less off the planet ( cross out the ones that don't apply to you :) )when I compete well thats what I tell myself LOL
I've had mine since 03 07 92

Christ Peter, thats VERY bugger.
Glad to hear you came out unscathed and agree 100% - these are very tough little cars. If you're gonna have a crunch the Starion will stand it better than a lot of others out there.
I always tell myself the shell is the cheapest part of the car in respect to my car. As much as I'd hate to bang it up, replacing the shell is a hell of a lot cheaper than blowing my race motor or gearbox etc.
On a positive note, you now know the limit on that corner. Knock off 1.5 mph there next time and all will be good. :D
pps - can we call you Fabian now LOL

Never argue with an idiot, it brings you down to their level and they beat you with experience.
Jeez Pete that's a huge downer.
Glad to see you're OK, apart from the dent to your pride I guess.
Every now and then we all have one of those "ran out of talent" moments, and when we do, we hope it doesn't cost us too much
Good luck with your transplanting into the spare shell, and look forward to seeing you back out there again.

Thanks everybody for all the comments. There was no roll cage in that car, & despite the incident, its still quite drivable.
My son, who also races Autocross, but with a Sigma, has suggested we knock out all the glass & take it "Dirt Circuit Racing" about an hour from here. Very similar to Autocross, but in a field of cars all racing together, mostly ex-speedway cars, so panel rubbing is normal.
Then once the body has finally reached its "use by date" then we will re-shell it again for Autocross.
Lots of options to consider before it goes to Starion heaven.
Never let a little oops get in the way of having fun.
Oldie, words like conservative & less aren't yet in my head during competition. Apparently I'm now being accused of B.T.B. syndrome. (Acronym for "Balls To Big") :D

It's a shame that you lost what looked like a pretty clean straight car. At least you plan on getting further use out of it before recycling it. But the most important thing is that you are okay.
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...

Here's one more pic of how it was going just before the big oops !!
Still on 100% throttle, but time wasn't quick on this lap going this far sideways. Next lap was quicker but then had big oops, so we will never know the time.
