New car for the wife

Post by Vulpes »

Well we went car shopping this week. Early in the week we took the staz and test drove a 2000 honda prelude. I was unimpressed. When I got back in the staz I could not believe how good it felt to drive ( $20,000 will do that you would hope ) today we test drove a 1999 Toyota Celica and a 2002 MX5. I was impressed with teh peformance of the Celica but the condition wasnt perfect even though it was one owner and only 65,000 k's.
The Mazda has only 55,000 and is in as new condition. We bought it. Bear in mind my wife only can drive an auto so everything we drove was auto. There were only two auto Mx5's for sale in Sydney. Anyway what I'm getting to is after everything we drove the starion still felt amazing everytime I got back into it. you would expect a 26 year old car to feel like crap after test driving these later model low km cars. Actually quite the opposite, it was smooth, powerful and comfortable. The salesman at the dealership we drove the celica at were amazed by the Starion, they came out and poured all over it. They couldnt believe the condition ( $20,000 will do that you would hope ) and were amazed that it was turbo charged, fuel injected, rear wheel drive etc. They had never seen one before ( one salesman was younger than my car ) The staz has still got it.

Interestingly enough I went car shopping last week for my 'other half' and ended up with a TJ Magna Sports Wagon with 75000kms.
That's because I sold the Auto Widey!!
It was going to be the TJ Sportswagon or AWD Magna VRX (TL-TW).

On a similar note, I'm amazed how these models were so far superior than their counterparts commodore and falcon!
And I've got change left to do a full respray on the GSR-V!!!
Imports.
88 GSR-VR Widebody 2.6L
87 GSR-V 12V Dash 2.0L

I agree mal, the junk australia passed off as cars in the 90's is shameful. If you drove a 94 model Cressida or Supra or Mr2 or virtually any other make of Japanese car then drove my sons 94 falcon you would be amazed. Everything on his falcon is either not working, falling off or loose. One of the main reasons we bought my wife a new car was so my son could have my wifes BA falcon Xr6. I believe they have certainly come a long way in the last 10 years but they still fall way short of their european and jap counterparts.

Ha, a starion that is immaculate and owes me about $25,000 would hardly be a good swap for an mx5. I love the mx5 dont get me wrong but thre is no way I would swap my starion for one. Yesterday I took it to quote two jobs and both owners just drooled and poured over every inch of my car. They were amazed by thr condition of it and had no idea really what it even was. As great as an mx5 is that kind of stuff just does not happen.
