Great Wall V240 4wd bellhousing info

Post by redzone »

Next door got one of these in for a wheel alignment yesterday, so i had a squiz, as you do..

They have a sohc 16V 4G69 motor, and it's a wideblock..

and the gearbox is a Toyota Hilux copy.. which is a W54..

which is a close relative of the Supra W58!

so, now we have another source for Supra gearbox conversion bellhousings!

shame they're not narrowblock though! would have been handy for dohc 63 conversions..

Haha Dave i was actually just looking at one of those at my gearbox place the other day. He had one sitting there and compared it to a staz box and the dimensions were very similar. Any idea on the strength of one of those?

depends how well made the box is compared to a Supra one, although if the great wall one shat itself you'd just replace it with a genuine supra one...

i imagine the bellhousing would be strong enough..

The Chinese-copy W series gearboxes are for sale on E-Bay too. I offered to "test the strength" of one for the guy selling them as he believes they're just as strong as the Toyota boxes. But he reckons they're already in the process of running them in some circuit cars to see what sort of HP they can handle.

Hey Bryce give it a go, it's worth a shot for that sort of money.

Only thing to consider though is what the ratio's are like?

well this is now a great and cheap option for anyone with a starion block going twin cam for the gearbox.

i was reading at sigma-galant and there was talk there of a narrow block version but im unsure and maybe someone has just got confused.
