4G63 8V Head

Post by pitmac »

Can I use a camshaft / plus the hydraulic tappets and rockers where origially it was mechanical tappets.
Are the oil galleries in the head different .

If they are off a 4g63 SOHC head you can, but so your cam journals and everything else are correct including the alignment of the rockers onto the valves as there are subtle differences, I would suggest pulling down the rocker assembly completely and swapping the head's original cam journals over.
There are some differences in the rocker assembly's rods and you must ensure the oil galleries are facing the right direction (up/down and front/back).

As a suggestion, use a third rocker assembly as a guide if you have another complete spare, so you get the reassembly right.

I did this for a L300 head, used the original cam journals and swapped the rockers and cam from a Starion head. This is so I could benefit from the big valves and ports. Is this what you're trying to do?
