the plastic knuckle at the base of the stick can often be the cause, someone might have put the shifter from something other than a starion in there and the knuckle is too small. Just try and get another shifter off a starion member and try that. Surely someone will have one to give away.

Don't worry mate that box comment is an old joke on here. Was good to meet you today, and i can't recommend buying a proper short shifter from stedbani or mookeeh enough. One of the best mods for the money.

Agree with you Shannon, however a short shifter will magnify any probs with a box tenfold, so if its had a hard life already may not be the best.

JA or JB 'box.

On JA's its a ceramic ball type of thing that wears down and creates slop. Mitsi still carry them in parts from memory. Worth a call to a dealer to see if that fixes it. Cheap start imho before laying down dosh for a short shifter - which are worth the money but try simple fix first.

Or it could be the nylon bush that the ball fits into

PART NUMBER for nylon gear change bush is MD701577

yup, cutting them down makes them feel worse,

i just put a standard full length one in and gave it a fresh greasing

... feels like a new car to drive

*also just done fluid change, used Nulon SAE 80 smooth shift, with the recomended 125ml gearbox treatment,

had slight resistance from 1st to 2nd thats compeltely gone now :-)*
