The price of Starions

Post by www.18u »

I went on Carsales today, and they range from $3500 to $47,000.
We all know the story behind the 47k asking price, but i saw a few on there for 12k. So it made me think of this question. What do you guys think your car would be worth if you put it up for sale tomorrow.

To give you a ballpark figure of what i think they are worth, i used a couple of examples.

1. Mals auto widebody on here for $9500

2. Mals gsr-v (yes it needs a little tlc) for $5500.

3.The mpi gsr3 in Q.L.D. for $3500.

To me these cars are priced perfect to sell. I am not trying to flame anyone on here trying to sell car, i am just interested to see what people think they are worth!

Interesting thread Shannon,

Well I know how much I've put into the track car and wouldnt sell it complete for less than $20K as it is today. Parted out it could yield maybe $15K. I'd be waiting a while for a buyer though I reckon,

There's a lot of variables when selling a car but the reality is its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

eg GTHO Falcons - we all hear of the $700K+ prices paid by a few well funded individuals. Not every GTHO has sold for that. Those prices were got because the car was what that person(s) was prepared to pay for the right vehicle. There werent too many people with that sort of money kicking around so that drove the price up at the top end of the market but it didnt stop every GTHO owner claiming "his" car was worth a quarter of mill.

A Starion in good nick with good paint, good mechanicals and good history is a $5-6K exercise but again finding a buyer at that price will dictate the setting price. No demand = low price. What we need to do is raise the demand for our cars. How? Buggered if I know but without demand prices will always be undervalued.

My thoughts are prices fall in a range.......... between what the seller wants to get and what the buyer wants to pay.....

I would sell my JD for $10k but not for $3k.... so the price is between that......

My wifes JB may be worth $5k or more as a 1 owner model, but if I sold it I would lose my balls !!, so what are they worth? rofl ... not much anymore... they have done their job .. but I am kind of attached to them!! LOL

Then again if someone offered $47k I may consider losing my balls LOL
1985 JB - owned from new.
1986 JD - used to own one.......

would a buyers guide article in unique cars raise their profile a bit? ;)

currently trying to persuade him not to do it on JA's and do JB's instead.

also the GSR3 in qld is now off the market..

shannon as i've said to you via sms its not just starions that arent selling at the moment, NOTHING is selling. i dont know of anyone who's sold any car for a price they were happy with at the moment. plenty who've bought bargains though!

Any car is really only worth what the buyer is willing to pay for it.

I sold my fully resto'd Genuine GH Sigma Turbo (concourse condition, matching vin - paint - interior - engine #'s etc) for $35K. I had a lot of 19yr "I want a turbo car drop kick's" come and offer me $5k for it, but I waited for someone who would appreciate the car, not kill it.

And if it was the other way round, I would expect to have paid a similar amount.

Yeah a Unique Cars article on JB Starions would make sense, then the article can go either way then towards the more common JA and/or discuss the benefits of the later model JD!

Just let me buy a few more before the article comes out! :D
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...

yeah i dont think a buyers guide article would be very succesful if it was constantly saying how much better the next model was LOL
