puttering blown turbo? melted two pistons

Post by toms starion »

g.day fellow starion people.. as i dont know much about turbo's thought use could help me out.
when i hit some speed it just died started blowing smoke when i stopped there was oil everywhere under the bonnet.. thought it might be the head gasket till i got it home took the cooler piping off and found alot of oil in the turbo.

could it be the turbo or head gasket??

Sounds like the turbo buddy. you may have blown either of these? 11,8,5,3

or it could just be a blocked PVC valve in your tappet cover.

well it was the turbo but thats all fixed now.. and it was still puttering so i stripped the motor and found that i have melted two pistons.

man i must have bad luck on my side. now my jb will be off the road for atleast 3months.

when i hopefully get it going im gonna sell it to buy a drifter, i was thinking of using this but its too good for the track

1) put brand new VR4 galant spec pistons in it as they're way stronger, even $300 cheapies

2) find out why your car leaned out by putting it on a dyno when you get it run in again, as a lean out is what killed your pistons
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

Which pistons exactly did you melt? 1&4, 2&3 or 1&2 etc? Could it just be intake manifold related?

Or are you thinking it was fuel reletad, ie regulator, filter, injectors, maf etc?
