O ringed head and copper gasket
Well I took the head off my car because it was using water and I discovered that the head is O ringed, the gasket is solid copper and the engine is running 12 valve pistons. Can someone confirm my observations?
Are these pistons stronger than normal 8 valve pistons? What comp ratio would I have based on the dishes in the pistons? I know its low because it was gutless off boost.
I have a vrs kit coming but I'm guessing I cant use the head gasket because the head is o ringed. Can I just clean it all up and re install the copper head gasket and torque it down tighter?

I think copper head gaskets can be reused, but I once built a toyota twin cam turbo that had an o-ringed block, I used a factory head gasket and that seemed to work just fine. I never ran huge boost though so I have no idea if its suitable for big HP applications but I do use a very well respected engine guy for machinig and he never mentioned it being of any concern (he did the o-rings).

they look like forged copies of stock starion pistons to me... makes sense due to the copper/o-ring job.
get some wurth motor seal for the water galleries on the copper gasket..

i'll check my bottle today for a part number, you will need to find a wurth distributor!
stock head gaskets can be used with o-rings depending on the position of the o-rings.

When I first had my 4g54 O ringed to accept the turbo the shop used a copper gasket and coppercoat.
First turn of the key and water leaked out everywhere.
Second rebuild he used a RTV silicone and a can of stop leak for good measure. That was 8 years ago and not a drop of water has been spilt since. :D
