Power Steering bracket

I got sick of having to remove the power steering pump when ever I needed to take the exhast manifold off. So I finally bit the bullet and moved the power steering pump down to where the air con used to be.

Here is what it used to look like.

I cut out some 10 mm aluminium plate and welded it to the cut and shut air con bracket.

Painted it

Image

Made all new hoses, mounted the power steering cooler slightly differently
And there it is, in its new position.

But why use a 200sx pump?
What is the advantage?

Just wondering because I have a whole box full of various 4G63 dohc pumps

Yep, me wants to do this mod to, but simply because the steringrack is on the LH-side.
Iv'e kind of allways wondered whytf they didn't move it on the LHsteered ones...

What belt (length) are you using?

good stuff mate. the last photo has just helped me out with which hoses go where for my IAC motor :D

Not 4 any particular reason other than that we used the AC multi V pulley on the Harmonic balancer instead of changeing the staz ps pulley

Thanks that clears that up, so just use a multi v pully type of pump.

When I eventually do this, I am reluctant to put it here because I want to retain my aircon. Shame you can't fit more around this area :(

with the brackets i made up you can easily R&R the exhaust manifold on steve's car without pulling the pump...

This might be a crazy (or dumb) idea, but electric water pumps are readily available, but what about an electric power steering pump. It could be fitted almost anywhere. But I've never seen one, or is there a good reason why they don't make one.

mr2s have em. there are conversion details to be found online for a lot of cars. It would be possible with the starion as well. You need to be somewhat electrically minded, or at least not afraid to blow some fuses or compenents.
