wow, really? fair dinkum, then it makes sense to upgrade your brakes, even if not required by the law or an engineer.

thrash wrote:gotta disagree with you there RT.. By definition, accelaration is the rate of increase of the kinetic energy possessed by a given object.. in this case, the car.. however the kinetic energy possessed at any given speed is the same regardless of how quick the acceleration to that speed was.

Since we are still maxing out at 110 km/h, if the weight of the car remains the same, the amount of kinetic energy it possesses also remains the same. The car may have extra power in terms of hp ("potential" energy perhaps? lol), but the energy required to stop the vehicle from a given speed is the same regardless of the level of acceleration
You're right, the kienetic energy is the same at 110km given the same weight of the car no matter how fast you get there. But as dirty sanchez stated, the faster you generate that energy the less time there is for the energy to disapate in between braking and accelerating. This fact has been accounted for based on one of the adr 31 test on the brakes to test fade where the vehicle is accelerated 95-105 and braked 10 times.

On topic - Mr Bender try this website http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... _ncop.aspx for the requirements for engineering the mods.

thanks RT and DS, that explains it :beer

now, I suppose the next question(s) that would come to mind for someone like Bender who has a vr4 motor in his car.. what size were the vr4 brakes? Were they 4 stud or 5?

Has anyone else actually been through the engineering process? Do they specify that you need the brakes from the donor car/half cut, or do they say that those would be the minimum size you need?

Why would Glen need to engineer the engine, well the block anyway?

As he said, it's still a 4G63...
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...

i was just askin that as a general question - he may not have to, but considering the power increase.. they might say something about brakes?

i think if i had of gone up in cc(as in 2.0l to 2.5l)or number of pistons(4cyl to 6 cyl) then it would be a different story but since our cars came out 2.0l and turbo it mite not be a problem?

( i still think its a good idea to upgrade brakes when you start to making more power than stock)

The same argument for tyres.

A mate has a 6 litre Monaro and went to get new tyres fitted, and the replacemnt tyres have to be rated at 270kph

what did you have to get engineered on it? (as in the mounts?,or emission? gearbox?)

Im pretty sure there is xomething in th erules about a 25% increase in power is meant to be engineereed.

Probably shouldnt use that term as you live in qld...

QLD D.O.T. "approved officer" scheme is very very different to engineering in nsw and vic etc.. what scheme do they use in wa?

my mod plate guy said apparently wa is the state thats holding up the NCOP! which is basically similar to the qld setup..
