WTD: Diff housing (large)

Post by Lummy »

If anyone has a Starion diff housing (large), I'd be interested in grabbing it.

Don't need the centre, but if it's all complete, then so be it.

Preferably with good seals still in place!

I'm in the Melbourne area, but I can probably organise transport if you're elsewhere.

Yep, but the LSD centre in that one (even buggered) makes it worth quite a bit.

I was thinking more along the lines of about $50 for an old diff.

LSD's are worth lots of $$$

they are useful to keep around as well, considering they don't take up much space. I would be keeping it if it wasn't for the urgent need of money.. hence the discounted price.. I know that even completely shot lsds still cost a good 700ish to get from the US right?

Yeah, I already have a fully functioning 3.9 large LSD, but now that I'm down here in Victoria, the 3.9 is too short for Phillip Island. So, I need another LSD in 3.54.

I already have a spare large LSD centre, so now I just need to find a housing for it so I can have 2 complete diff setups. I realise I could just change the ring gear, but it's a pretty big job to do and involves new diff oil, etc, so having two complete diffs works better. It's also works out well if I break one!!

The 3.9 for Sandown and Winton and the 3.54 for Phillip Island.

I also have a small diff (open) sitting around waiting for a wish-fairy to give me a small LSD centre. They're around, but they're rare.

Yeah, it cost around $450-500 for a diff rebuild.....
I recommend chasing that LSD from the US I showed under ebay stuff. Not for sale atm on ebay, but send him a message!

Large (4 bolt) LSD are also stronger you would expect!!

can you actually "break" an LSD? what breaks in them? I don't consider needing a rebuild as breaking btw.. to me, breaking = unfixable and have to get a another one

Ha ha....you want $100 because I said I wanted to pay $50 ?

What's the condition like? Is it just the housing? Any pinion gear? How are the seals? Driveshafts?

You wouldn't go to the effort of removing gears and centre without replacing all the seals. New bearings would also be an idea.

Do you honestly expect to get the housing, halfshafts and gears for $100? :wtf:

To be honest, yeah, I do. Open diffs are worth virtually nothing.

It's only the LSD centre that is worth anything.

And if the seals and bearings are ok, then I don't bother replacing them.

A large diff housing is worth some dough, as it would cost a least $200 to ship from US and about $140 for the LSD centre.
That's shipping alone! There would be less than 50-70 units left in Oz !

Someone with a large diff housing can just ship the LSD centre!

As there are very few small LSD's available, one would have a better chance to get a large 4 bolt LSD from the US if they needed it real quick!

I'm not talking about getting one from the US. You would be mad to import a diff housing from the US.

There is plenty of supply here for the very limited demand. Not so for LSD's, hence the price. It all comes down to supply and demand, and that's why non-LSD's are worth next to nothing.

Anyway, all this shit-talking isn't achieving anything. I'll pay what the market dictates.
