Bloody hell, this post isn't just derailed, it's a shunting yard with a turntable going six different directions!!
So while we're out there I've gotta say I'm with Tomsun. Front drive is safer than rear drive (generally for the general population) as you get progressive warning of slippage with front wheels and get plenty of time to undo what caused the issue in the first place (basically do the opposite). Whereas a rear drive car gives you less notice of slip and then whoa! you're very sideways. A good driver can recover from this if they're on the ball and quick enough, but an inexperienced/untrained driver could be in a lot of trouble before they know it.
Many years ago on a holiday trip with a mate in his company Falcon, he got the thing fishtailing by accident when he turned the corner onto dirt. I told him then started yelling at him to let go of the wheel. He was freaking and was so focused on trying to control it with the steering wheel. As you could expect he lost it and ploughed the front bar into the culvert/gutter and wrecked it. This is an example of something that generally doesn't happen in a FWD (unless you have a blowout and it will be more severe in a RWD with a rear tyre going than in a FWD anyway).
The Subaru and four wheel drive mitsubishi's are setup from factory to handle like FWDs. Why would manufacturers do that I wonder?
Of course you certainly can alter the cars to handle like RWDs, changing the swaybars or their settings, another way is to increase its power big time. Yes, then there's diff settings, etc, etc. Point is that it doesn't take a lot of change to get a different sort of handling. Then these cars will have easily have the back to step out and can potentially be kept there. The rally boys deliberately set their cars up like that.

Further to that....
The biggest surprise in a FWD is as OF said, there's the danger of stepping off the throttle and the car trying to snap around on you (power off oversteer). That was experienced in the same guys' Corolla Seca with me driving on the way back from a ski trip. Drove out of it unscathed but freaked out the guy asleep in the back seat!

if a moderator moves the unrelated junk to a new appropriately named thread, I shall continue to comment lol

The moon must have been in the right place for making everyone put their thinking caps on for this thread!!
I've only had time for a quick quick read but really good info on lowering, safety etc.
I just put my lsd and 5 stud on but had wanted to get my suspension sorted first [ bought my Staz with CUT springs in back] ...yeah i know..now with the lsd i need it sorted and safe asap . . so this info is really useful .
You guys should post how you managed to get your Starions lowered for the cheapest most quick easy way lol but still captive and warrantable or for now I just want to get springs back to captive even if not lowered so keep ideas comin

no problems at all other than your spring will fall out of the seat when you raise the car or go over an uneven driveway..
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.
