my friend has a 4g61t (88 lancer 4wd sedan)with a broken ring landing that has a freshly worked head with after market cams in it, from what ive read the jdm 61t has the same size valves & combustion chamber as the vr4?
is it possible to put this onto a starion block?
do stock starion pistons work with a 16v head?
if so will i be better off with vr4 cmas or with aftermarket 1600 cams work?
one more thing i,m lookin at buying a starion block . how can u tell the difference between a narrow and a wide block , i dnt wana buy it just on some ones word
4g61t head on to a wideblock
The generation 1 six bolt 4G6 family of engines the head should fit ok but it's easy to check by simply conparing head gaskets & Google search for chamber volume etc
WIDE/NARROW block doesnt affect the head only the gearbox so simply measure the distance between the 2 top boltholes in the bellhousing 110 mm = NB 130 = WB The Staz is a WB
The FWD motor will almost certainly be a narrow block so in a rwd you will have to source an adaptor or one of Bills bellhouseings from the states

Stock Staz pistons are cast 7.6-1 comp ratio so if you mount the 61 head on a stock bottom end the CR will be higher which is not a bad thing as off boost responce will improve.kushman wrote:thanks for the info .
been inform that the head was skimed a lil to so il have to use steel head gasket and calculate the thinkness to get the same ratio as a evo as i have a evo 1-3 loom i wana use with a stock evo 1 ecu and later a straight plug in link
so the stock starion pistons are ok to use?
Suggest you at least use forged pistons for longevity as you will almost certainly drive harder with the increased power
Get the head cc'd then do the CR calculations
PS from memory the 63 tc =47cc & the 61 = 43cc BUT to be absolutely shure get it cc'd

really? I always thought they were 8.5ish.. 7.6 is extraordinarily low.. even the vr4 tc motor has a comp of 7.8..OLD FART wrote: Stock Staz pistons are cast 7.6-1 comp ratio

Got it straight out of my owners handbook :)thrash wrote:really? I always thought they were 8.5ish.. 7.6 is extraordinarily low.. even the vr4 tc motor has a comp of 7.8..OLD FART wrote: Stock Staz pistons are cast 7.6-1 comp ratio

Don'y use the standard starion pistons, you'll blow the ring lands on them, better off to get some VR4 pistons. A much better design. Will suit the TC head better too as they have the recesses in the crown.kushman wrote:thanks for the info .

Only the japanese spec sohc 4g63 pistons were 8.5, aus delivered ones were 7.6. Mrb1 has a website showing the differences.thrash wrote:really?
