This is true. But if you're beside the road and impatient like me you'd want to fill it, so you'd open it. There are ways of doing so and this bloke obviously didn't know what he was doing. Using an old cloth/towel in thick layers over the top of the cap and radiator, turn the cap to crack the seal which will let stream/fluid to escape initially, and once that has subsided then turn the cap fully and remove it. Simple really...

i would assume he did do the towel thing to open the cap, since he actually managed to open the cap enough for coolant/steam to shoot out.. if he tried to touch it with his bare hands while it was that hot, i think he would have done less damage to himself as he would have felt the cap and just burnt his fingers without having been able to open it enough.

So i'd say he used a towel or something to get it open, but then forgot get out of the way of the water..

the worry for the car itself is if he wanted to put fresh water into an uber hot radiator?? time for a new engine? or a radiator replacement at the very least.
