My car update
My car update
I bought a 88 front cut last year. I have since swapped the dash and climate control over to my car along with the engine & g/box. Mine was getting a bit tired and I plan to rebuild it properly and swap back.
New motor went a bit better than my old one so I was about to turn the boost up, when I stumbled over a sigma turbo setup for cheap. These are a TO4 with a 32mm external gate. I rebuilt the turbo and bolted it on trying my best not to change too much of the original piping. Note the modified air box and 3" intake hose. Also just added an extra 3" intake hose for extra cold air. It was definetly choked up before and would probably benefit from a K&N.
I've also added a 3" stainless exhaust with 2x straight through mufflers. I was anal about getting it as high as I could for the best ground clearance on a low car. No scrapes or rattles yet. Also used v-band flanges and would recommend them to anyone. I'll get a better pic of the whole system when I next have it off.
Also added a electronic boost controller. Running 1 bar.
Now runs sweet as! Definetly faster than my old JB (even without MPI) probably due to the turbo.
Next on the list is - fit new clutch, fit 3.9 rear gears and shorten rear struts.
A couple of pics of car.

He's also handsome and not paid enough.Entaran wrote:+1 on weld quality. Whoever did that is good :D
Thanks for the comments. Wheels cost a fortune, but were well worth it. I'd like to fit 295/30 rear tyres instead of the 275/35s it currently runs. I think it's just a 'bit' to large in diameter in the back. Probably when these ones wear out.

Saw this on PF as well Anthony. Mate, great job on this car. Cant wait for the new motor setup with the head and MPI.
This is what old school Jap cars should look like. Original but with well thought out and executed improvements.
Top job mate :beer

Never argue with an idiot, it brings you down to their level and they beat you with experience.

Great work MrBishi! You've got me inspired to get my car modded! :D
I notice the original water lines on the turbo are not there. Isn't the T04 water cooled or have you a different connection point?
I've got a set of 3.9 gears as well, but may not go ahead with the change as I reckon the characteristics of the 2.6L suit the 3.54 ratio. Also, to my eyes I reckon with the way the car sits with the current suspension, it looks spot on!
There's K&N air filters on ebay for around $75-$80 from the US. Here's the link.

Also on ebay, some stuff that 101propose has with I/C piping may spruce up your engine bay.

Turbo is old school non-water cooled. Water lines are temporarily bunged up for future install of a 'better' turbo.
In the past I'd have agreed with you regarding the gearing. However now that the thing can breathe a bit better, it happily revs through to 6Krpm. Some shorter gears could be the ticket now.
Rear struts will be shortened not to lower car more, but improve travel. At the moment there would be about 20mm to the bump stop.
