what started my starion build? the purchase of a starion...

I was doing an EFI and dyno tuning course at TAFE and wanted a "cheap project car" to play with. Had to be EFI, RWD, TURBO. A COUPE IN BLACK would be a bonus. Saw the a Starion on the side of the road for sale, drove it, "tested" the LSD and bought it. Buying the car was the cheapest part! :D

The motor was tired and leaned out on a road tune and broke ring lands. That started the forged bottom end rebuild.

I bought my JA with the understanding it was "pristine" In fact it was far from it. Expired engine, and clutch. Dings in the body, stuffed paint, worn seats, rusty front guards and a front spoiler that looked like it had gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. $20,000 and a year of hard work later and it is finally "pristine".

$20,000? :shock: what was the big ticket items that took it to $20,000?

Mine started when I first drove it and realised it was the slowest car I'd driven in a fair while.

With regard to me, I keep putting off builds/mods and keep buying other Starions. LOL

One day, I will have a Magna M6/7 head, multi point (magna efi), 600cc injectors, a TD05H/ 3in exhaust and Haltech ecu!!
I'm keeping it Mitsubishi as much as possible and as long as there is minimum 150kw atw!

The 2.6 has grown on me! And I love the torque down low!

put a TD06 on it with the starion exhaust housing ;)

i must admit the 2.6 has grown on me a little, it still sounds like a whiny barge motor though LOL

Yep :D I was trying to find how deep I could go into turn 3 . I had a sneaky peep a few moments before I went on the brakes and not end up in the kitty litter so it may have been a bit faster .

I've recently fitted a TO4, 3" exhaust and wound the boost up to 14psi on the new motor. Totally changed the old rattler! Now need new clutch.
