Fuel quality/Catylytic converters

Post by leoca »

I dont know if others are experiencing this there seems to be a BIG difference in the quality of Premium unleaded available.

I got a tank full 2 weeks ago...was it Vortex???...had pinging in the JB at 0.4 on the boost gauge in upper gears :( :( :(

3/4 tank BP Ultimate fixed her ,now peaks at factory 0.7 no probs./pinging.

Also I was just wondering whats the go with no cat in the JB's...i mean they are designed to run on unleaded but i thought a cat was mandatory on these cars ???.Anyone know

Caltex sell two versions of Vortex, did you put in the 95 ron one? I also have to agree with Ulimate being the best, even in the daily driver I get more km's from a full take of ultimate vs optimax.

Ok my two cents worth. The Guy at the Caltex Depot told me that a lot of Australia's fuel comes from Singapore which is poor quality. He said almost all of woolworths fuel is from Singapore and being affiliated with caltex, you can draw your own conclusions.

Singapore oil pricing is the index they use to price fuel, the fuel in refined in Australia. Also you will find all fuel companies will get fuel one or two refineries from the state then add their own additives. For example the caltex refinery in Brisbane supplies fuel to most of SE QLD.
