gear box
I have bought a gearbox that was advertised as a starion box turns out it was actually from an l200, any idea if i will blow it up if i put it in?
87 GSR-V, Factory DASH, Rebuilt bottom end with arp rod bolts and balance shafts removed, head reconed with 3 angle valve grind, TD05 housing machined out to take Garrett T4 internals, rebuilt and cryoed gearbox
Depends which L200 it came from, the 2L are narrow block but the 2.6L (aka 4G54) are wideblock.S0LJAH wrote:its narrow block ur starion will be wideblock
it wont even bolt up to the motor
flywheel and starter will be wrong aswell

Pretty sure this is the same thing that happened to me. :(
The box did fit but the shifter was set too far forward, appart from the fact that I found it difficult to reach (yes I am a shortass)I couldn't fit the console back in as the shifter would hit it and first gear was lucky to engage with third bieng impossible, even without the console shifting to third meant sometimes hitting your fingers on the ashtray.
Maybe it is possible to change the shifter position by changing shifter housings or making a bent stick but I wouldn't bother,
and wait there's more.
The ratios were different as well I think (1st and 2nd felt shorter at least) and the car just didn't feel as natural or as nice to drive with that box in I gave it a couple of weeks to see if I changed my mind before removing it and refitting the original box and was was immediately much happier. :D

If at first you don't succeed, maybe skydiving just wasn't your sport!
